"Access is the new discount"

I'm sure this is an old expression, and I don't remember where I read/heard it, but it seems to be so true.

p.s.

That reads somewhat vaguely, my bad.

What I meant is that being able to buy at retail, relative to the secondary market price for the same product, is in fact a discount.

Never thought of that before but it is definitely true.

I would add that in the case of AP there’s no discount but they might at some point send you a thank you gift that can’t be bought like a branded pen, desk clock, travel case or watch winder.

You may even get taken out for lunch or offered a factory visit.

Little things that show that your purchase history is valued.

and 'extras' such as those you mention are even more relative discounts.

The funny thing is that I know it, but I hadn't really comprehended it.

More than that it's a license to print money with seemingly no ceiling some of the time, no wonder the masses are crazed.

Greys are definitely the discount and now more than ever, the only discount. The good thing is that unless you are only buying top in-demand pieces, the grey discounts over time should more than make up for any premiums you do pay when buying a top piece.
