Hello from NorCal

Hi everyone,
My name's Florian and I'm super excited to join this forum.
A little about watch-self: my path to liking Rolex has been long and tumultuous.
From a high school boy passionate by movements and skeleton watches so Rolex, expensive and you can't see the movement... Overpriced and for me.
Then my first mechanical watch: I started looking at a Tissot, tried it, tried a lot of other watches during 6 months: ended up with Maurice Lacroix 4 times above my initial budget.
Same story with the Rolex I'm know trying to buy: I want a watch to accompany me all the time. Started by looking at Tudor, Omega... Tried a Sub date There is no way to come back anymore.
Only one question left: Sub or GMT?...

My gateway into Rolex was a fascination with automatic ‘skeleton’ watches too!

Back before I ever can considered Rolex, I bought a spectacular skeleton swatch from the Macy’s on union square. I still have it in a box somewhere. I wore it for years and loved it.

Like you, I wished rolexes had clear caseback options, but discovered with my SS/PL Yachtmaster 18 years ago that there just isn’t anything like a Rolex. Flashy, beautiful, rugged. You can do anything in a Rolex!

But when I learned of the Tudor north flag with a sapphire back, showing the utilitarian in-house movement.

I debated for a few months. I know rolexes fairly well but didn’t know much about Tudor. And while they’re less expensive than rolexes, > $3500 is still a big investment for me.

I love this watch! If you’re still interested in the clear back, and want one from Rolex’s sister company, this north flag is amazing.

Welcome!

Sorry. I thought I was replying to a different thread. If I were starting where you are, personally, I’d go gmt. I have the blnr and love it, but all the Rolex gmts are amazing.

Thanks for your answers and the pics of the North flag as well. Nice shots and very nice watch! Love the power reserve and the sapphire case back. Might totally be on my list in the future!

Love the Batman as well. Even though my heart melted for the new Pespi on jubilee. But it's just impossible to find and 2x Grey market is both too expensive and contrary to my principles.

I’m totally with you on the new BLRO, and agree about paying double. It helps that I don’t care for the jubilee (personally, I like the oyster on my BLNR) and, having seen the WG BLRO, find I’m not blown away by the red and blue ceramic bezel. It seems those colors are problematic for the incredibly complex manufacturing process. Blue and black must be much easier which is, I suppose, why the first bi-colored bezel was the BLNR back in 2013.

In any event, in your list there is not a bad decision! Just don’t settle. Get the one you want, even if you do have to wait.

Good luck!

I’m a huge fan of both. I only have two watches, the 14060 no sub date and the 16710 GMT Master II. Best of both worlds :)
