Between the lugs check...

Hi guys,

I have a local used watch dealer (I offered this Sea Dweller in trade) claiming this has a fake case... I've recently bought it from another dealer, so no doubt I'll get my money back if it was fake.

So have a look at the pictures please. The watch is a circa 1991 Sea Dweller. It has replacement Luminova dial and hands, as is the insert luminova. It has a correct 93160A bracelet with a date code of 2003 (would match the dials and hands if it had a huge service/repair back then) No papers.

IMHO the text between the lugs looks ok.

This grey bases his fake claims on that he has a friend inside Rolex geneva with whom he can check serial numbers... And that the check of this Serial came back as a 16610 (Date-Sub).

I would bring it to a Rolex service center just to be sure, or try calling them. However I am skeptical tbat he has an insider who would just check serials for him on command.

Is it possible that someone on this site has a connection to confirm the serial number? Not an expert, but it looks pretty good to me. Hope he's just not trying to talk down the watch to a low price.

Would indeed be great. I will bring it to my AD, but would be great to get some more info.

Looking at HQMilton's excellent "database" I managed to compare to other X-series watches. There are some differences, but seems very common.

engraving looks good to me. did you weigh it out ?
I am surprised someone would have a connection in Rolex (Geneva??) that would check the serial just like that ... quite odd.

That’s what he claims. I’m just as surprised.

I would think twice before believing that...

I would imagine a terminated work contract if Rolex found out considering their commitment to secrecy.

Case looks good. Has the movement been checked inside?

if it's replacement, then it has to have S in the LEC to indicate it was replaced.

Yes it should, but I'm guessing there might be a bit of Dr Frankenstein going on... Which is fine for me, I just don't want a fake case!

Case engraving is spot on and believable when compared to the condition of the watch... not sure about his inside man...

In my opinion watch and bracelet are genuine.

Replacement crystal but it looks ROLEX genuine.
Dial is surely replaced (its a maxi dial)

Maxi dial looks more maxi to me.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
