Getting a Perpetual after an Annual ...

Does it make sense at all? Why would one do that aside from rounding up one's collection? And if it does make sense and was bought both to wear and for one's collection, which PC model appears to be more sensible and why?

I welcome any inputs that may be shared by all. Once again, thanks in advance!

more complicated the more collectable long term. If you are in and out of watches all the time then no. Just reset it every four years.

When you say it's there as per George Mallory, what do you actually mean? The complete package? Or because it is available so get one if you can?

Thanks again!

I'm afraid there is no reasonable or rational reason why anyone would buy an annual or perpetual calendar mechanic watch, but it sure is fun.

A perpetual is obviously technically far more advanced than an annual and that makes it more collectible than it's annual brethren, never mind that it might have to be serviced every 5 years. If you have a choice to make without blowing your budget, perpetual is the way to go, alternatively the 5146 annual is a stunner.

Thanks all for the inputs provided.

I asked this question not only for curiosity but to understand further the seemingly similar calendar watch complication. IMHO if one has an annual calendar, the more logical choice would be to go for a complication that includes not only a PC but also a chronograph (hopefully automatic but is this available?) and/or minute repeater or Tourbillion. That way the redundancy is not too obvious and can definitely enrich one's collection. Unfortunately, this can also create a deep hole in one's pocket, something to ponder further on the pros and cons before purchasing.

Why do we buy the watches we buy? Because we love them, and because they are there. And i guess because some of us can. Sort of like Mallory's love of climbing and his desire and determination to climb Everest. Because its there.

I like nice watches, and I love Patek Philippe watches. I want to own a Perpetual Calendar so anybody who asks about purchasing any complication or grand complication will only get a very strong endorsement to do so from me. More Pateks > Less Pateks. If I cannot currently enjoy owning one, then I will wait excitedly to see some new wrist shots on the forum. It's nice to know that somewhere out there is a complicated Patek that has found a derserving wrist.

I can only say that like any other collection I can appreciate owning different complications and models for different reasons. Having both an Annual and Perpetual Calendar makes for two great additions to any collection IMHO. As for which one--very personal. I know some of our members have some amazing PC's and if you search you will see them. I own this one as it tuly appealed to me. Here is a shot of my 5159G. I don't think one can go wrong with any Patek Perpetual though so happy hunting...Cheers,

Why would anyone get another Patek.

Because you can and you wish to own it.

I have two stainless steel Pateks. A Nautilus and a Aquanaut.

Now it makes so much sense to me. Totally agree with your statement!

Thanks SteelerFan65 and dddrees for injecting your thought on our hobby and passion.

The Patek PC is one watch that will be on my radar. I would personally love to see how the watch movement operates on a leap year.
