Black Tie Gala

Snapped this pic headed to a black tie event last weekend. If anyone is considering a Patek 24 for their wife/girlfriend, I highly recommend it. My wife loves hers.

The Patek 24 looks stunning on a lady's wrist. It is one of the most elegant watch currently on the market!

It's my understanding that wrist watches aren't considered 'proper' for black tie events, but if you're going to buck tradition, then Patek is the way to go!

Stunning examples!

Cheers!

It depends on culture, tradition and country. Black tie is technically less formal than tailcoat to which you shouldn't wear a wrist watch, but a pocket one is considered OK. The rule is, at least so you know it and then you can decide to break it or not, that you wear a dress watch on preferably black leather strap to a black tie. Personally I think it is OK to wear a nice wrist watch to a black tie.

Awesome pair!

Thanks for sharing, John. I wish my wife appreciates watches as much as I do. I guess precious stones are enough for her....which is a god thing.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and the lesson in fashion edicate. I need the watch to know when bidding ends on the silent auction. My wife took the pic with my iPhone while we drove to to the event...rolling her eyes with each snap of the shutter. Have a great weekend everyone.

This is correct, and I have to believe part of it is due to the fact that a pocket watch is meant to be fastened to a waistcoat, which white tie (a.k.a. tailcoat) requires but black tie doesn't (since many men opt for a cummerbund or sometimes no waist covering). And while some men may choose to hook a pocket watch to a belt loop during the day, that's not an option with a tuxedo.

Of note, with the exception of certain state dinners and symphony performers, white tie is all but extinct in the US, so black tie is the most formal most will ever see. I believe it is also worn to super secret events that I am not waspy enough to even know about, too.
