What exactly does the term....
Gilt dial mean, and can you pls show me a an example vs. a no gilt?

Gilded means covered thinly with gold or silver. So if there is silver gilt writing on dial the writing is covered thinly with silver

'gilt dial ' is a term, used to describe a certain type of dial ...its a bad term really as it leads to the incorrect description of what it , is as above.
IT is not a dial with gold ink on the dial , or gold print ..... it is a dial that has been printed in reverse galvanic method. a polished dial blank is printed over with black paint and the text or markings that you see are areas where the paint is omitted and what you are seeing is the brassy disc surface underneath... the whole lot is then sealed by lacquering over. often additional silver text is added above the lacquer usually for the depth rating. |

See u learn something new every day I just figured it was the writing that was covered w gold or silver as I thought guilted is a decorative technique to cover with gold or silver
