oh then i misread it.

yes there should be unless they plan a date model with ss and the ND in Ti.

The Nautilus has brought Patek a lot of brand recognition and got more people interested in the brand. If the Nautilus goes, then I believe interest in the brand will decline.

Some of the slow moving lines only get sold as part of a bundle with a Nautilus. Well I’m afraid those watches would just sit on the shelves unsold.

Discontinuing a watch because it’s too popular and cannibalising other watches makes no sense to me - they are different watches with a different appeal. Discontinue the nautilus and people won’t all of a sudden be after a calatrava, they will just go to AP for a 15202.

If it really is cannibalising other products, well focus on making those more desirable rather than just saying we can’t compete with one of our own products.
I agree with all of this. Well said

Patek is so much more than steel sports models, so far the family owned business has been succesful in preserving thier brand and staying ahead of trends.
i believe we are seeing the last days of nautilus on SS. they might expand thier offering of steel in calatrava line

I love the idea of a white gold 5711 on bracelet.

Another here to say that this post hit the nail on the head. Discontinuing the steel nautilus is lunacy. And I vastly prefer their AC and PP watches.

That's a bit, ummm, insulting to the highly-quality leadership of PP. His incredible education and personal accomplishments in hand-crafting timepieces make him a true leader, and we should add he singlehandedly became an innovator within the field of horology.

Of course, Singapore, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, New York, the City Of London (not the whole area of London, just the financial center City Of). i heard rumors PP is going to start a 'make it your own' program where you can choose the name of a city and they'll custom create a timepiece for you. Very forward thinking as one would expect from Patek.

Don't forget Santa Fe. I figure if PP did a limited edition of 500 pieces for enthusiasts living (permanently, no vacation home owners) in Santa Fe who have history with PP, I might have a shot.

Have to say I don’t understand anyone’s thought process that it is somehow preferable to no longer make a 5711 equivalent - I’m much more a dress watch guy on strap but there will always be a place for an SS Nautilus. I equally can’t see how not making a piece that has been made for 45 years helps sell other pieces, quite the reverse.

I think it is not a matter of not replacing the 5711 with another steel three-hander, but just having a couple of years' pause before re-introducing a new one to build more hype and PR when PP finally releases the replacement. It is bit like what Rolex did with the Pepsi.

Rather than disco the Nautilus they need to get influencers, which alas are now a real thing and largely becoming the only thing on SM, to really promote the ACs and PCs if they want strong sales there too, but like so much in this new SM age it is out with the old and in with the shiny new - 2010 is like the new BC/AD.

We certainly don’t need any more hype.

This is the smart strategy.
