Hulk Trade for Deepsea Blue

I was just wondering what people’s opinion would be on trading my Hulk for a Deepsea Blue. I’ve had the LV for about a year now but looking for the Blue. What do you think the trade would cost with the additional money and would it be worth it?

The deepsea blue will be bigger and heavier. Some people like it some do not after owning it. Keep your hulk and save for the deepsea blue.

I don’t know how to advise you on this. It really comes down to two things, are you OK with the huge size difference between the two? do you prefer a half blue dial over the very green watch? Both are special pieces, both very hard to get.

The size of the LV makes it more wearable, especially with long sleeves. But if you get the Basel ‘18 DSSD you’ll get an updated movement. Not that the one in the LV is bad in anyway, but I’d consider the movement upgrade a plus for making the change. The Sub line could get a movement upgrade in ‘19 which might have an effect on the resale value of yours... but that’s speculation and probably minimally important in the decision.

Are you buying from an AD? If so you’d probably make money on the LV if you sold it instead of trading it as part of the deal. Then probably add another few thousand for the DSSD. I forget the retail on them, $13K or $14K.

Tough decision, good luck.

I would actually look for a trade on TRF, don’t think I would get any kind of deal going through a retail shop or AD

I think a lot depends on what else you have in your collection. The Dblue is an amazing reference, one of my favourite SS Rolex, however for me it was not a daily wearer.

If you have something else then I'd say go for it, but if not, I'd save for the Dblue as others have said.

Personally, I would not do it. That said, I love the Deepsea, and wear the black one as a daily. I had a Hulk, and just felt small since I'm on the bigger end of the spectrum with my frame. The 44mm feel right and I haven't looked back.

Haven't really kept up, but you'd be looking at a $2500-$3000 offset in cash once you parted ways with your Hulk. Not huge, but when you think about it, it's 1/3 of the MSRP of a new one, should you be able to source one new from an AD.

Keep the Hulk. Get the JC DSSD later on.

Love the green dial on the LV but size looked off for my 7.75" very flat wrist. I'm mostly used to 42mm & 44mm APs. The updated DSSD D-Blue is a much better fit and also has a unique dial but doesn't attract as much attention. Like the updated movement as well.

If you’ve lost interest in the LV, and wrist can accommodate the larger DSSD, I’d have. O hesitation in making the change. Just my opinion of course..

Thanks

Been wearing APs as daily beaters for the last 5+ years but the updated DSSD has really won me over. It's my perfect sports Rolex and the recent changes/upgrades are exactly what was missing in the previous gen.

I'd do it but I'm biased. I did wear the LVC almost daily for several years but that was before the D-Blue came along.

might just be the angle of that pic (or your preference). I felt the LV was at the min end of what I would wear and after getting used to wearing APs felt the DSSD fit is perfect.

My wrist is very flat so case design is key for me. Really cant get away with any round/dress watches but AP RO/ROOs from 39mm to 44mm seem to fit best. I love the Pt daytona but feel it wears much too small for me.

old gen DSSD

The "Hulk" in Sun Light is Amazing. The SD unless you need it for your profession or are a very Big Guy, just screams "Boat Anchor".

Deeeeeepsea Bluuuuuuue all the way! I love that watch. People seem to love a green watch so you will probably do well with a trade or sale, but I would not know that. I just know what I like.

Just went through this for a SD50th. If you have a bigger wrist, then you can easily pull off the DSSD. I would only get a 126660 (updated DSSDJC) if you are going to do it. If you can pull the size off, this is optimum time to make a move with the LVc. I loved the LVc but all my other watches were 42mm to 45mm. The LVc wears bigger than the 40mm size but it’s still a 40mm watch. Bigger watch is bigger wrist presence and easier to read. I seriously considered the DSSD JC gen2 but the thickness was a issue for me in my colder months under a winter coat. If I lived in a warmer climate, a DSSD JC would be considered more seriously. The new movement is very impressive and my current time keeping data is so good I will report it in another week or so but the new movement is a major upgrade.

I purchased my new 2017 LVc under msrp before the craziness so I essentially traded up to my new SD50th for the equivalent of buying a new SeaDweller 50th slightly under its current msrp list so I was very very pleased with the upgrade. Watches are made to be enjoyed and I feel I got the total LVc experience while I owned it.

the gen2 is only slightly thicker than the original, I don’t think it would be too thick under a winter coat. Mine fits fine under coat cuffs and shirts. The dssd should be worn snug and above the wrist bone. Congrats on your sd, I think I would have one if they did a gloss dial instead.

To me the DSSD JC and SD50th attract the same personality as the LVc. They are large and in charge watches that have tremendous wrist presence. The LVc pops in the sunlight. I don’t thing you can go wrong with any of the alpha Rolex divers.

OP, I have no experience with the 2018 D-Blue, but I've owned 2 of the 116660s, as well as the Hulk for 5 years now. I found the D-blue to be top heavy and way out of proportions. Obviously its better for a bigger wrist, but I still just found it to be too tall and the bracelet too thin. Of course the new 126660 has the redesigned bracelet, which hopefully make a big difference.

The dial is absolutely amazing though and perhaps worth the issues.

I almost traded my Hulk for my first D-blue and i'm very very happy I didn't. Alternatively I owned them simultaneously, knowing one would go sooner rather than later. If you can float it, i'd highly recommend owning them both and then deciding. You can always sell your Hulk later on. They're pretty hot these days.

Your wrist size can pull it off, go for it!
If you find it feels heavy later get an Everest or Rubber B band for it and that will stabilize it on the wrist. Too good looking to pass up if you like it and it fits.
