First non-Rolex incoming!!

I️ am the biggest fan ever of the Explorer, but surprisingly don’t have one at the moment. Just received my new Omega Railmaster today. Couldn’t be happier. I️ don’t typically like to buy without seeing a watch in person, but since this one’s been out of production a while, I️ didn’t have any choice. I️ liked it in pictures, but absolutely love it on the wrist. 39.2mm is a perfect size.

Congrats. Great watch! I used to wear the Aqua Terra version of this watch. I don't think it gets much more comfortable, with that flat back, and it nearly took me away from Rolex/Tudor altogether. I switched to my 76200 simply because I wanted it smaller, since the big dial of the Omega wore larger visually than my old Sub, and I wanted the day function.

Good pick up Larry! It's kind of a long story, but I bought the Railmaster from a gentleman in Canada. The watch got stuck in Customs for 2 weeks. I was beginning to think FedEx or Customs lost it. So having never tried a Railmaster on in person, I started having second thoughts about it during the delay. Started pining for an Explorer. Then the Railmaster arrived and it was way better than I expected. So for now I think the Explorer will have to wait.

However, I see the appeal of being a one watch guy. As many have said, it's probably not going to happen if I continue hanging around here!

Also, my twin brother is a one watch guy and his one watch is an Explorer!

Great looking duo! Your Seamaster really does look a lot like my Railmaster. Of course, the Railmaster is in the Seamaster Aqua Terra line, so that makes sense. What is the size on your Omega?

It’s just like yours, 39.2mm. They’re identical watches, outside of the date/dial (can’t find one of my pics with mine on bracelet.)

I nearly traded my Omega for the smaller 36mm version, but got a 76200 instead.

Beautiful watch, the 39mm was really the "keeper" in that Railmaster line. That design and era of Railmaster is the watch that Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear once famously labeled "a thing of unparalleled beauty" (and in the same breath declared that "the only thing in the world worse than a fake Rolex is a real one"). They actually made a hockey-puck sized 49mm XXL model during that period, but the 39.2mm is truly the gem.

The movement in that watch is the Omega 2403 Coaxial, which is the non-date version of the Omega 2500 Coaxial used in the Aqua Terra models of the same period. It's the pre-8500 Coaxial, which was a modified ETA2892-A2 base with the added the coaxial escapement. If you ever need to get that watch serviced, from personal experience, I'd highly recommend you actually use Omega for the overhaul. That watch is one that I suspect will appreciate in value over time. And I've learned from personal experience that some independent watchmakers just haven't done enough coaxials to obtain the necessary expertise to do it right the first time.

Wow! Great information and insight. Thanks for sharing. I watch Top Gear just to get a look at their watches! I like the idea that the Railmaster was not popular at the time, but is now a pretty hot watch. I agree - because of that dynamic - that it will appreciate in value. I don't buy for that reason, but it's nice if it happens. I hope the same holds true for my white Milgauss.

I think I remember him saying that. Man I love Clarkson... (and I say this while wearing an Explorer).
