So some guy from italy wants to buy ny rolex. He has good feedback buying/selling on there.Anything I should be worried about?

What could possibly go wrong about a sale on a website that makes money from people listing things? When the item is a piece of high end luxury jewelry and the only thing you have to decide to send money to a total stranger are a bunch of pictures, how do you know that the pictures are even of the real item? Italy?

Sounds like he's selling the watch, not buying. I know many eBay sellers don't ship to Italy for whatever reason.

Personally I think Ebay does have its place and have purchased watches from ebay sellers in the past (after viewing in person).

The issue from a sellers point of view is an old scam used quite extensively on ebay -

- Buyer buys Rolex
- Buyer receives Rolex
- Buyer then files case with Ebay / Paypal claiming watch is fake
- Buyer buys cheap $300 watch from chinese experts
- Buyer takes watch to mainstream jeweler for authentication
- Buyer claim your watch failed authentication including paperwork
- Ebay / Paypal FORCE you to refund the buyer on receipt of item
- Buyer sends you cheap chinese fake with original packaging
- Paypal write an 'E Cheque' against your account so buying is guarenteed refund
- You either have money taken from account or Paypal takes legal proceedings against Seller

That's the long and short of it, they are a law to themselves and ALWAYS side with the buyer. Only solution is to take private legal action, here in England we did manage to start court proceedings and the buyer decided to settle a few days before he was due to appear in court. Messy situation for all.

Ah my apologies for misreading, ok lets see . . .

So you want to sell your high dollar luxury watch to a stranger in a foreign country. You hope you actually get funds that will clear and that the item makes it through customs to its destination and that the buyer will like it and want to keep it as opposed to return it and want their money back?

yes yes.. this is my issue... he had good feedback -this is why i am on the fence. maybe i will try to persuade him off of ebay. what if i post "watch as-is no returns"?

Sell it here on the forum! no fees, and you can check peoples feedback!
You can request bank transfer too and no danger of getting scammed!

2. the guy was willing to go off of ebay, and just do it through paypal, should i still be worried?

Everyone has to start somewhere...Do NOT do the deal around ebay if you do decide to go that route (bad idea IMHO) as you lose even more protection. Slow down, and sell your watch in your home country...

Sorry is just common sense I assumed, the ways to help against the above is to either take a deposit through ebay so if it does go tits up you both 'take a hit' or to say bank transfer / cash on collection only. I have sold a handful of low end rolex's on ebay and have generally
Only had good experiences, mostly as legit buyers are willing to travel and provide cash on collection.

If he has good feedback for many years as both a buyer and a seller
of rolex watches - I do not see a problem.
