It would be unfortunate to be to child of a controversial famous couple and grow up in the public spotlight with today's media.

Agreed, Ed. It's admirable she's turned out so well - I just glanced at her bio on Wiki and she's excelled at so many things - brilliant student, well-read in world affairs, articulate, well-rounded... sad that anyone thinks it necessary to make rude remarks about her looks. That's my definition of ugly.

I disagree. Once your in the media, and on stage you open yourself up for judgement. If I were to speak in front of a microphone while being a well known person, I'm sure there would be some joking going around.

I shave my head with an $18 pair of clippers, and eat pizza once a week. I honestly don't care.

If I was on American Idol, people would pick me to shreds. That's life.

This young lady puts herself in the spotlight, and has to be able to handle criticism.

How many comments are made daily about famous people, and life goes on.

If I met her, I would be very polite, and leave her alone. If she asked me if I found her attractive, I would tell her "Absolutely not". Now her educational achievements are worth mention. I'm happy for her that she finished school.

If she doesn't find me attractive, I wouldn't be surprised.

However.....Nobody better call my Rolex ugly! That's below the belt!

Chelsea has done well for herself; her parents were both intelligent and so no surprise that she is also intelligent. She'll be something big later on you'll see....

I'm not sure what it is that you're disagreeing about. Are you saying it isn't rude to criticize a young woman (or anyone, for that matter) solely because of her appearance? Because it is rude, whether it's the media doing it, or anyone else. And I don't believe she had much choice about being the daughter of the president, and I do think her parents were careful to protect her and keep her out of the limelight when she was young. And somehow, I doubt she gives a flip about what anyone says about her, much to her credit. My point was that it's a shame so many people place so much importance on the ideal of beauty - more so than intelligence or achievement - that they think it's perfectly okay to say mean things about someone who doesn't measure up to their ideals.

I don't find her appearance pleasing. When I was young, she was young too. If she were a classmate, she would have been hard to look at. That's just my opinion about her looks, as a famous person.

Whether they are male or female, that's not the issue.

As a normal person, we do have certain traits that we are fond of. Some people are beautiful, some are not. That's the harsh reality.

I'm no model, nor claim to be, but I'm not speaking on stage either. If I did, I would expect personal opinion. No biggy!

I just think she has some issues.

All I know is that I am glad the wedding is over so the news will stop talking about it. It is just a wedding!

Why is it you can tell a woman: Oh my, you are beautiful.

But you can't say: My God you're ugly.

I think you can, Leo. But calling a man or woman ugly doesn't show much class, imho.

Good point there.
Then let me restate. Copious use of silence can go a long way.

I try to stay away from the off topic as much as possible but when a topic title grabs my attention (from the main menu) I sometimes have a look.
When I read "congrats ..." I thought I might want to read it. But unfortunatly it is the same old same old.

If someone posts a picture of himself on the "show me your face with a rolex..." everybody has nothing but nice things to say. Why are the people commenting on this young lady not over there and sharing their opinion as well ? These members put them selves in the spotlights so they should accept these comments , no ???
