An open question to the moderators

Catching bits and snatches of posts in this forum recently, I've read the word "points". My take on this is that if a member posts something which one of the mods feels to be inappropriate, he/she is given "points", which I would assume are demerit points. At some point in time these demerit points can accumulate to where the poster is denied further access to the site, or banned.

I would suggest that it would be appropriate for Steve the owner and/or the moderators to address this practice and clarify it, and let the general membership know exactly where they stand at this website. I would further suggest that each member's demerit point status be viewable to him/her, so they can determine whether or not they are treading on that thin ice which none of us see until it breaks under us.

Can you be more specific (perhaps citing particular posts) about this, Al. I have never seen this.

I don't think we really have any abusive hand gestures in our smiley collection. They are all very acceptable.

On the other hand, abusive language should have a cut-off line, John. Words like "bloody", "damn" and "ass" are being used all the time (I know I'm one of the guilty ones!!) and I'm sure the mods would accept those.

But if we start using 4 letter words starting with F and C, then I guess this whole place would turn into a fiasco.

On the Jokes & Cartoons section, however, the mods have been very liberal and, in all fairness to them, I've never see even the smuttiest of jokes ever being censored.

Just my take on the whole matter. I mean, we really can't have abusive language flying all over the place. Think how much these lovely young ladies would be blushing!!

John, are you serious? You mean that one member can continue to take cheap shots and slam another member over and over again. But, when the receiving member finally gets tired of it a picture of a hand gesture is too much in response?

Come on, pal, I expected an awful lot more from you. You're not serious, are you?

No, J.J., I am not going to pull my hair out. I am, however, suggesting that you and Prince would be doing this thread, and TRF in general, justice by backing off and leaving it to the moderators to respond.

Right on, Craig!!

BTW, guys, this actually is an artefact at the museum where I worked. A pointer used by Aviators during navigation and bombardment planning during WW II.

Seriously, this is a pointer used for maps!! No kidding, guys!! Cross my heart and hope to die!!

I realize now that the reference wasn't made in an open post but in a PM. Here's the substance of it:

"Atomic was banned after getting demerit points that were awarded without warning, and were not fully explained. I know others have these points as well, including me. When Atomic asked for these points and the system of how they are awarded to be explained, he was told it was “none of his concern.” Not sure how that can be since it affects his membership on TRF. In addition he was told by the mods that he had repeatedly violated forum rules prior to those points be awarded, but he was never told about these supposed prior violations when they happened. He asked to be given examples of this alleged behaviour, and the mods refused to provide it. He was told it was against forum rules to question any decision by the mods, and by doing so he risked being banned."

I believe I asked you a pertinent question, Al. WHERE have you seen these "points" that you are talking about? I have never seen them. I want to know what you are talking about, that's all. I consider that relevant to this thread. Sorry to offend...

EDIT: I see that you posted immediately prior to this post with additional info. Thank you.

And when these points accumulate are they here forever, or do they fall off our record after a month, six months, a year, etc?

I think demerit points are like infractions?

Take a look at this thread link, and scroll down to post #66. You'll see a red rectangular icon coloured bright red. If you mouse over it will state "Received Infraction".

I guess if you receive enough of these you'll get banned?
