Second watch- Cartier Santos or Breguet Marine Big Date

Hello everyone,
Long time no post, since I was kind of a one watch guy in the last few years. Would love to hear your thoughts about these two watches.
At the moment I wear a VC CHRONO, and would like to add a white face or a two tone.
My options are:
Cartier Santos Large SS or TWO TONE
BREGUET MARINE BIG DATE STEEL
I’ll leave some pictures on how the watches look on my wrist.

Santos. First, you already have a big date-ish look with the VC. Second, the quick change strap option on the Santos is a fantastic option. You can go from strap to bracelet in seconds, giving you two wearable options. I also like the story and heritage of the Santos.

For me, this Breguet is "too close" to the VC. At the same time, I feel something about this Cartier that I have never felt before with this model, I don't think this watch looks good on your wrist. Based on these, I would perhaps rather choose something else then these ones.

Breguet for me, and that's coming from a Cartier fan. I agree with another person that Breguet is much more interesting in many respects.

VC Gen2 Overseas Chrono gets my vote. Others are great too, but the grande date overseas is special, and the best of breed IMO.

The Santos Large is very cool and has some strap options that will make it more versatile.

I kind feel it a little larg on my wrist. I tried the medium, from the pictures Iooks fine but I have the feeling it is too small

What would your suggestion be? For the second watch besides the VC.

The Marine big date is my favorite watch of all time so I'm a little biased with my answer.

I personally would go with the white/silver dial to pair with your VC. I switched mine onto the navy blue rubber and it's a perfect fit for that dial with the polished blue hands and markers. I'm wearing mine today actually fantastic watch!

I do not personally like 2nd gen O/S much but this VC you have looks very nice on you and well done on wearing it continuously, this is where the enjoyment lies.

Between the other two pieces I would personally not buy any but you wrote that these are your options, so either the medium Cartier or the Breguet can be fine (with a small bias on the first, judging solely by the looks on your wrist).

Buy the one you truly like, even though these two specifically are very different in what type of character they possess. However, at the end of the day if your heart is not 120% set on either then do not make the purchase. There are so many other watches out there, for sure down the road you will find something else that steals your heart.

While I like and respect Breguet, I've never liked the Marine. If I wanted a sporty watch from them I'd buy a Type XX or something like that. The big date Marine just doesn't work for me, it feels over styled, and like it should be a product from another brand.

The Santos is a classic. It's been around for decades, and its a great value for the money, 100 meter water resistance, more highly antimagnetic than a Rolex Milgauss, in house movement (although, not as finely finished as a Breguet movement) and far more versatility with the ability to switch between a metal bracelet and various straps.

I've owned that Breguet as well as the chronograph version, and have almost pulled the trigger on a Santos a few times.

The Santos will not look good after ~2 - 4 years of wear due to how much they pick up scratches. The problem is, it makes the watch look dull and loses the super shiny aesthetic.

The Breguet has awesome hand done guilloche, and decent finishing...but a little underwhelming compared to their tradition line and is not as comfortable as the Santos.

Personally, I would go Santos but depends on how OK you are with scratch magnets.

One thing I would think through though is how often you'll reach for a watch that isn't the VC when these all fulfill the same purpose.

I think you've already tried the DJ41/AirKing, so I won't mention them. Then maybe something that isn't boring and isn't a chronograph.

The following pictures are from brand new watches from Chrono24, I think, these may look right, and any of this could be a great pairing with the VC:

I think these sizes might fit your wrist well, just like the VC.

Do share a picture with the blue strap.

How about a medium Santos in two tone? You’d get a very nice dress watch to accompany the Vacheron. I have the same issue with the size of the steel versions: one too big, the other too small. However I think the small size would suit the classic steel & gold look.

Good point. I will try a medium two tone.

F1 star Pierre Gasly was wearing a two-tone, medium sized Santos in the paddock and it looked dynamite

Go with Breguet Marine. Dial and movement finish is a work of art. Not even comparable to Santos.
