Despite the speculation that clasp failures are rare, they remain alarming to owners because the design LOOKs so failure-prone. The tiny, blind weldments are basically a pair of stress-risers located in what appears to be the worst possible place.

When we see something like that, we assure ourselves by assuming that the smart guys at Rolex have done their sums and it's going to be all right. But when you read about them breaking, right where you expected they would in the first place, that's a real confidence-sinker.

Rolex should take a page from the Firth of Forth railway bridge and come out with a new clasp that won't break and LOOKs like it won't break.

Absolutely agree that "somewhere in between" would've been the ideal Randy mate....

The gmt2c and daytona clasps are supposed to be the best ones Rolex makes. Might be just your piece..The RSC should be able to take care of it easily. Let us know

This is a very expensive ss wristwatch that should never fail in this way In or out of warranty. I have seen this happen in the forums a few times at least. It is definitely not an isolated incident.

The new bracelet and clasp are very good, but let down by spot welds.
Classic tuna can system feels cheap but is indeed proven.
I have both 16610 and 116613, have to say the old classics have the soul, while new ceramic models have the look...hard choice.

Jusy can not trust the spot welds...they tend to break, just matter of time.

In term of durability, classic wins.

gmtIIC clasp fell off

March of 2010, just getting out of bed, my gmtIIc fell off my wrist. i was shocked, shocked i tell you. it was just out of warrenty, sent it to my AD. they sent it to RSC. they asked no questions and sent me a brand new band. the weld failed.

your AD should stand behind you on this and work with Rolex.

Mine is an '08 and when I had it serviced recently the repairer found the catch had broken and it cost £60 to have it repaired by welding it.
The replacement parts would have been £200 so he saved me a lot of money.
