Panerai Sandwich dial or painted dial

Evening everyone

Today I had the opportunity to try a luminor for the first time and got impressed with it at 44mm, but the question is that is the sandwich dial better or painted one, I couldn't take my eyes off one model with tobacco dial and painted numberals.

What are your thoughts on these two different dials?

Cheers

Had both versions. I generally prefer sandwich if it’s available. One exception is the 662.

No wrong answer. Depends on the model.

Totally depends, but I lean more towards the sandwich. It adds a layer of depth to the dial, and I like the lume shining through.

I can't say one is better, but my preference is sandwich.

This. I have an early painted dial 112 which I love. I’ve also had a sandwich dial 233 which was lovely, but I didn’t like the painted dial on a 390.

That's a nice piece you got there, I am looking at 233, never a fan of manuals

I own both and love them equally. The sandwich is more traditional for modern Panerais but the visibility is vastly better with the painted and the tobacco dial is glorious. Can’t go wrong, make your best deal and don’t look back.

The Sandwich dial is the hallmark of Panerai, historically speaking. The concept was to create a dive watch with maximum lume output. The whole lower disk of the dial was coated in radium/tritium (or a large swathe around the cut-outs on some) which increased the volume of the light reactive paint. I prefer watches that are historically correct to their origins, and however murky the origins of Panerai is, the sandwich dial was part of the DNA at inception and somewhat more complex (expensive) to manufacture.

Hi, yes working on a deal for PAM 127 fiddy (full set), obviously it being a sandwich dial, I am glad to see that most of the paneristi fans wishes to stick to the DNA of panerai which is the sandwich dial. The painted dial is no less sort after.

As mentioned above, I was leaning toward sandwich dial and PAM Fiddy was available so we are working on a deal, will find out soon about the decision.

WHOAAAA, beautiful

I am eyeing that 721 once my deal go through for 127 fiddy

The beauty of 721 is that the dial is so clean, wish Luminor had something similar to that!
