Crown Rotating Counter Clock-Wise

Hello,

This is a question to a watchmaker.
When unscrewing the crown on a Rolex watch and rotating it counter clock-wise I can hear fine clicks.
What causes these ?
Can rotating counter clock-wise damage the movement somehow ?

The clicking you hear is friction turning the stem slightly where it "ratchets" as it turns, nothing is engaged.

No, it won't hurt anything

Thanks.
I played with 2 watches today - An OP 114300 and and an Explorer 1 214720. Both had the 3132 movement beating inside.
I unscrewed the crown and gave it a few turns counter clockwise.

From the Explorer I could hear the fine ratcheting sound you mentioned 9 times per full turn (every 40 degrees).

From the OP there was only 3 ticks per full counter clock-wise turn.

So the variation is due to less or more friction in the mechanism ?
