GMTmaster hand adjustment query

Noticed earlier when attempting to set the time on my GMT16700, that having lined up the minute hand to the 12 position in an anti-clock direction, the hour hand did not line up precisely with the hour marker. When I then moved (slight jiggle) the hands slightly in a clockwise direction, everything immediately re-aligned allowing me to accurately set the time. The watch is running really well and keeps great time, so much so that I tend to wear it more often than the others. Possibly no big deal but was just wondering if anyone else had come across this? Thanks!

What you are experiencing is down to backlash in the gearing. It’s completely normal.

Some calibres need to be set backwards and some need to be set forwards to have the hands line up exactly right.

Your watch would have been properly adjusted in the clockwise direction - which you noticed.

Without lash and clearance, a mechanical machine would lock-up with any temperature or external change.

Guys - was hoping that there would be some simple explanation that this was a characteristic of the movement like you have mentioned. As always, really appreciate the advice! Regards Kenny
