GMT IIc/ Deep Sea (or Sea-Dweller as 1st Rolex)

Newbie here looking to buy my first Rolex and I don't want to regret & make a mistake. I always like to put a lot of thought to justify a purchase and it seems both new Rolex offerings are tickling my fancy. After trying the Deep Sea in the AD though, I crossed it out of my list being too big. I do like big watches (Panerai, Breitling) but the Deep Sea was way too thick.

So, now I'm inclined on he GMT IIc w/ ceramic bezel and the new bracelet. It seems Rolex did this very right. Only thing that turns me off is the green text but I could justify that its Rolex colors and they released this on their 50th anniversary.

Also, looking at the Sea-Dweller since it will no longer be produced having been replaced by the Deep Sea. I think value for the old one will increase since I predict the Deep Sea will not be a long term commercial success.

The GMT IIc is on the lead and I'm on the verge to get one. It's all a matter of how much savings I get buying it from a grey dealer or how little premium I need to pay-up w. an AD.

Either or, seems like I'm going to be a proud owner of a ROLEX. First timer here and I think the brand is in its evolving stage.

I definitely agree with your final thought & never really thought of it in those terms, but I like it. Some complain about the new offerings that seem to be coming from Rolex of late, but I agree that it's probably more of an evolving period that probably needed to take place to appeal to new (and a lot of former) owners.

I've never really understood the hatred some have toward changing a classic...especially classics like the Sub & GMT that have been made for so many years. God knows there are enough made that anyone can get their hands on one even if Rolex stopped production on them all today. If you don't like the new stuff, great, go purchase a 'classic' and don't worry about the new stuff...we all know the watch will last a lifetime. Subtle upgrades are great IMO and only make the classics that much more classic. I can understand if the brand seemed to update their look every few years, but lets get real, after 30+ years, more than likely a model can stand to be 'improved' upon regardless of how loved the vintage model was.

I love modern cars for their performance & reliability improvements (and some styling updates) but will always like 50's & 60's cars for their numerous timeless styling & pure driving qualities. Just because the modern day Corvette doesn't look like a 1959 Vette doesn't mean I should hate Chevy for updating the style & performance of the icon. Same applies to watches in my book. I have the GMT-II PEPSI and love the watch and its look. I think the GMT-IIc would be a great choice to buy,own and enjoy!!!
