16610

Hi guys/experts!

Love my new find with this forum!

Looking at vintage/to be vintage pieces.

Want a pre hype and no stupid overinflated prices.

Have no end of ceramic stuff and want sn older pre ceramic.

What's the feeling on the 16610? And 16610lv?

Has it hit full hype and daft money? Or can anyone recommend a pre hype older piece?

Love the knowledge guys and keep up the epic work.

I love the 16610! My father has had his for over 10 years and loves it. The 16610s are the final non-ceramic (Aluminum bezel insert) Submariner ever made and some with lug holes! They are a great watch and cannot recommend it more!

The 14060 Submariner No-Dates are amazing too, quite desirable these days I’d say.

16610

16610LV is the King of the Submariners. Always a different perfect shade of green but I’m an aluminum bezel kind of guy. I've really been digging the Tudors lately.

I think all Rolex watches (both modern, neo-vintage and vintage) are probably full hype given the astronomical price increases we've seen over the years. If you want pre-hype, then you're looking at the less loved sports watches like the Milgauss or Yachtmaster.

I know it's a cliche, but you're better off hunting for something you actually want to wear. All Rolex SS sports watches are silly money these days and the popular models are fully priced. I personally love the LV - aluminium green bezel insert which is likely to fade and patinate, maxi dial, the classic case shape and SEL. The 14060M is also a good recommendation - I personally prefer the rarer 4 liner, but I know the 2 liner is a TRF favourite.

For something more vintage, the 16800 or 16660 matte dial is the best of both worlds - sapphire crystal with matte dial.

Hard to find deals on any of the above suggestions though.

How dare you?

Still pre-hype are Air-King, DateJust 16xx models and Oyster Perpetuals. And if you're a bit fancy, OysterQuartz. But the Milgauss 1019 is the one for me.

Where can you find a Rolex SS Submariner for a reasonable price?

Do you have access to a time machine?

Outside of that you are in for a long hard hunt.

Agree with this 16610 is already way overpriced, too late for reasonable prices now

No, the dateless 14060M was the final aluminium bezel Submariner and the final aluminium bezel Rolex, it was produced 4yrs beyond the date model, ending production in 2014.

Lug holes were stopped around year 2000 on the 16610 with the addition of the 93250 SEL bracelet, becoming the 16610T.

The 14060M always had a 93150 bracelet with case lug holes right up until production ceased in 2014.

They are a great watch, so this part is correct.

I think at around 9-11k they are decently priced considering what the new ones go for. I personally find all five digit references to wear much nicer than any of the new stuff made today. People will argue that there have been so many improvements since the 5 digit Rolexes and I can’t deny that but to me they are more jewelry than tool watches now which is where they lost me.

Great watches the 16610 range but would not call any vintage,be very careful if buying 16610LV only buy with official Rolex papers, as there are many ones that were normal 16610LN changed into 16610LV.

Owned both for many years. Fantastic references there from my favourite era of Rolex.

Buyers’ market today - you can get them full-set for reasonable money. Cheaper than any New Sub or GMT.

I’d go for either in a heartbeat, but hey, I’m biased as all hell :D

Have to say that looks cool and I don’t generally like “vintage” so to speak or watches off of their original bracelet. Good job :)
