Openworked Double Balance

These are finally coming back to reality on the used market, and I am a total sucker for the design.

Also, this model has tons of internal angles and seems like quite the step up finishing wise.

Any regrets getting it?

I would be buying grey if it matters.

The openworked watches are quite interesting. I really like the detailed hand finishing that is prevalent throughout the skeletonized "dial."

I just got my 15416CE about a month ago. Amazing piece, no issues for me to read the time, added bonus that it has lume. Zero regrets and my friends all love it and want their own!
I’ve louped mine a few times and each time I just like it more!

Prosaic stuff like that is what the phone is for. The 15407 is a work of art (actually, I think legibility is not too bad, compared to e.g. 26735 Tourbillon openworked).

It’s a special event any time I wear mine (and I don’t mean I only save it for special events!). It’s a work of art that you can spend endless time admiring. I don’t know what price you’re looking at, but if it’s something you’re comfortable with, it’s hard to go wrong.

I find it legible. Actually better than my code chrono with those silly baton hands…

It is a masterpiece, I worn one for a few days and really enjoyed it. I will say the hands blend in and it can be difficult to read the time. I know I am in the minority but I actually prefer the 39mm 15305 skeleton despite missing the gold bridge.

You say that, but I find the 15407 insanely legible. Very easy to read. On the otherhand, I very often mistake the week indicator on the perpetual for the minute hand...

If buying grey the prices have come down almost 50% from peak. I'm considering one also. I've seen them in the $120's near new, mint condition complete recently

I get its art but I cannot see how one tells the time with it. The hands must get lost in all the backdrop but maybe its better in person?

I had the same thought from pictures, but in person, it reads very easily. They've got it right.

At 125k new vs navigating the boutique maze, it’s definitely worth it. View it as a differentiated tourb. These are among the best pieces in the catalog and have stood the test of time

No. In photos it’s a stationary point in time which may seem hard but in reality light hits off it like crazy and it’s very easy to read the time

Recent auction at Loupethis ended at $115k. Close(r), but I'm not sure if you'll get lucky for one at $100k w/o stories.

AP makes some insane pieces at this price point. This one isn't one I would wear. Perpetual calendar, yes please.

In Moda, they're trading at $115k. Not much longer to go :)

It takes a lot longer for AP to create a open work double balance than a perpetual calendar. In addition, the perpetual calendar used to cost about the same for retail, now it's MUCH more expensive.

However, I have to say, side by side the perpetual calendar wears nicer, being thinner and having a properly sized movement. The 15407st ultimately houses a 37mm movement in a 41mm watch.

So the Tourbillon trade didn't happen? Although, I guess you don't have two left arms...
