Icon20 Royal Oak vintage 36mm

Hello,

I am on a list for a 37mm (15550) RO, but I find it slightly big on my wrist, and I dont really like the feel of the 34mm. So i am hesitating to go for a 36mm vintage.

Would like to have ur advice on the different 36mm models, the 14790 and the 15000. When looking for one, what should be my priority ? Any other general advice ?

Thanks

JFYI the 15000 isn't 36mm. It's 33mm. It might be a bit small.

The general advice on TRF has been for folks to find a in-good-shape 14790 with the MK1 or MK2 dial (long index) because most folks prefer the vintage aesthetics to the MK3 dial variant (short index).

There's also the 4100ST and some transitional models before 14790, like the 14332, 14486, 14700. Those might all be an alternative for 14790 but there's probably not a strong reason to search out rarer or older models if you don't have a strong preference over the 14790. The bracelet will be a bit better and parts will be easier to find when going with the 14790 because it's just more recent.

I have a 14790ba and a 15550st. Idk if it’s cause the 14790 is gold but it wears bigger to me than the 15550st. It seems larger to me even though it is technically smaller.

I am starting to think that the 14790 could be more suitable.
Here are 3 photos, for the modern 37mm, the 14790 36mm, and the new 34mm. What do u guys think is the best fit ? I feel like the 14790 is perfect on my wrist.

My worry is buying an old watch that lived already like 20-30 years, will it live on the same or more? How do i know if the watch has been worn, anything in particular to ask about ?

Thankss

The 14790 is a classic and there are a ton of versions to choose from. They wear better on smaller wrists than any of the modern ones and much thinner.

How small is you wrist? Mine is 6.5”. Depends on how you like your watch. For me 4100st is my favorite and it’s my daily. Old bracelet makes the watch so comfortable to wear. I also like how it doesn’t taper down too much. Thin case helps a lot too.
