I like simple watches, some might even call them boring but to me they have something special and interesting. I just don't see that with the Explorer. I don't know what it is, I don't find it inspiring. Same as with OP, no emotional connection whatsoever. Hey, more power to you if it ticks your boxes.

My thoughts exactly … I give two shits about what people think about my watches. I buy them for me and because I like them. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

OP, I’ve heard the exact same thing said about my Sub. Different perspectives, I guess.
I’ve owned the DJ, Explorer, OP and Sub. The Sub and OP are still left. All great watches, I can’t keep them all. I do regret selling the DJ, though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I absolutely adore my 114270! I just got it in January.
I would consider it “neutral” in the sense that it doesn’t exactly draw the eye of people around you BUT it is rather beautiful when one takes the chance to admire and appreciate it (usually the wearer). In this way, as others have said, it is subtle, doesn’t attract attention and that may be one of its best assets. It doesn’t scream “I’m a Rolex!!!!” But it does indeed whisper it gently. All that said, my partner doesn’t care for mine. She got it for me for my 40th and when I asked her what she thought she stated “well, it’s no Submariner…” She really likes the Sub (116610LN). Watches are like many things one may have multiply items of. Guitars, I currently have 6 and there’s may favorite one which is the most comfortable plus sound to play. It gets 90% of my playing time.
I have approx. 24 watches in my collection with about 6-7 currently getting rotation time. 3 are Rolex’s, Explorer 39mm (2019), Submariner Date (2018) and a Datejust 41mm (2022). The Explorer gets the most wrist time in my rotation and lately has been getting even more. It’s just a comfortable nice watch to wear all day. |

Personally, I believe explorers are perfect at 36mm, 1016, 14270, 114270 are all great.
Bought a unpolished, full set 114270 during covid and that was my most worn daily for quite some time, on a rotation with a Seamaster 120m quartz and a f91w, it's a watch you could wear almost anywhere. The 39's are not my first choice but definitely great watches too. |

Watches I like but are generally considered boring would be dress watches like the VC Patrimony (owned), PP Calatrava, Breguet 7147, JLC MUT, IWC Portofino, Orient Bambino, to name a few. Also, sports watches like the monochrome Yacht-Master pt dial and slate dial.

Oh, and it doubles as a piece of jewelry! Besides, I was wearing watches long before cell phones. Guess I just got use to checking time all these years with a watch.

I read neutered watch
Yes it's a fine tool watch. Very simple and toolish as is its bigger brother.

Some might find the DateJust achingly dull and the Sub tediously predictable. So, options.

I like the Explorer dial but overall not enough bling for me.
My watches are jewelry

Couldn’t agree more, I’ve always found it totally boring and of no interest at all, we’re all different!
