Trading a Sub Date for a 321 Speedmaster

What do you guys think about this trade? I have an opportunity to trade in my 126610LN for a new 321 Speedmaster. and I will have to add $7k cash.

I have a 126610LV so I hope I won't miss the black sub date and I think the speedmaster adds more variety to the collection.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Straight trade or cash involved?

Box, papers and warranties?

Straight up trade without cash added? If that’s what sub dates are going for these days then (a) wow, and (b) take the trade and run as fast as you can with the satisfaction of knowing you are a certified thief.

I'd do that for sure if full set and knowing you have the LV. I'd probably do it with my LV and leave me with no sub honestly. The 321 is a level above a sub.

Trade for the 321. This is an absolute no brainer, given your collection, given you already have a submariner and given the same style sport Rolexes/ Tudor you have.

This is a fair trade, and the 321 is immensely special. Do it and you won't regret it.

Nice collection, btw.

I'd add max $2,000 but only if you really want the 321

Curious to know why do you say... absolutely not? I think the math makes sense especially since I got the sub at retail.

Assuming Ed White's would be selling at retail price I would agree with you but they have been selling over retail for quite some time.

FWIW, my sub is used from 2020 and this speedy is new.

Sub is worth what around 11-12? 321's are going for 18-20. Sounds about right.

I would make that trade - you already have an LV and Rolex will make the LN Sub date for years to come. You will always be able to get one down the road.

I think it makes sense to trade the LN for something else given that you have the LV. Now the question is: what do you want to add?

If you really want the 321 thats a fine choice. You are in the right ballpark price wise between the sales value of your LN and the grey market value of the 321. You can easily compare various grey dealers to maximize the deal.

But if I was going that route i'd rather a daytona.

The 321 is certainly something special given what it represents but they've made so many speedmasters, so many limited editions and variations... Personally I'm over it. And I'm sure it's an amazing watch... and from a couple feet away it looks exactly like another watch of the same brand and collection that sells at retail for less than half the price. No thanks.

I’m surprised I am saying yes, but yes.

A 321 and a Sub LV make a great duo.

I’m not commenting on $ value since I do not track market pricing for Omegas.

That's the beauty about the 321, if you know you know.

Well said. My general problem with Omegas, and in particular with speedmaster.

I waited years before I finally added a speedmaster hesalite 1861 last year to my collection (as the 3861 was already out), and that stopped me from looking at any other variation of speedmasters... well, except for that Moonshine gold one that is just gorgeous!

Heck yeah! They’re not easy to come by.. It is certainly more special than a regular Sub in my opinion.

Seems like a fair trade. We can't value a used sub at the high end of grey (14k)

To clarify, the 321 is not a limited/special edition reference.

It’s a limited production model (ongoing) with approximately 1500-2000 per year (spread over SS, PT and Gold). So limited ongoing production is an important distinction
