AFTER. But she still could not resist telling me what to do.

Probably the cutest thing to come out of the snake purchase was when my good wife saw the new snake. She didn't mind the snake so much, but she totally freaked out about the frozen dead mice in her freezer. My poor little son was so worried she would not let him keep the snake that he apologized profusely about the dead mice in the freezer. He hit her with the sad voice and puppy dog eyes that only young children can do, but his were genuine. She got over it.

Now he's older and he doesn't bother with the python so much, so my wife was unhappy that she had to buy the live rat and feed it to Monty after we left for California. He didn't even try the puppy dog eyes this time, so she let him have it.

This thread is hilarious. Forget a safe, python protection from now on.

Don't forget to wash with soap and water after those C-Diff patients or visible contamination My Pelagos has seen gallons of Purell foam but it does get sticky between the links and collect more grime there because of it. I take the bracelet off and put it in the ultrasonic cleaner every few months and that water turns almost black

A hungry python might have eaten the watches if they were anywhere nearby, substrate be darned.

Hopefully the OP managed to find a way to sterilise his watches in the last 18 years since his original post.

Folks do know that this is a 20 year old thread.

Naturally, if you do want to sterilize your watch, steam cleaning is perfectly fine or even Micro Ban.

I took my kids on vacation last week and, because I procrastinate terribly and I don't have a safe installed in my new house yet, I put a bunch of my watches in the safest place I could think of -- under the substrate in my son's python enclosure. I was in a hurry and it seemed like a good idea at the time.

My wife came out to join me two days later and she fed the python a live rat before she left. Except she did not know the python wasn't hungry. Rather than eat the rat, the snake killed it and left it to decompose, which it did, right on top of my Daytona, Ex II and TT Blue Sub. I found the dead, gooey rat there this morning. I threw it away, and now I have to figure out a way to clean the watches.

Bleach comes to mind, but that could be too harsh. Anti-bacterial soap could be too mild. Any ideas? Thanks.
Quick alcohol scrub then dish soap and water........and get a good heavy safe.

Your biggest concern would be bacteria which are pretty easily dealt with by surfactants that wash bacteria away and disinfectants that break down cell walls. Phenol is the gold standard but probably overkill. Soap and water and rinsing in isopropyl alcohol will remove or kill about anything you are worried about. Wouldn't recommend autoclaving a Rolex but it would probably survive.

Not a Rolex (assuming 914L) but once when I worked at Omega I had a guy with a Speedmaster come in, they had literally taken the watch off of their dead father (the thing was in a ziploc bag) and wanted it cleaned. It was caked with God knows what, so I took the movement out and let it sit in cleaning solution for about 24 hours, then regulated and put the movement back in. The smell was not something I'd want to replicate, but I'm assuming it would be the same thing to either soak it in cleaning solution, or even soap and water and give it a good scrub.
