Icon20 Hello All

Hello everyone

I’ve been thinking of making my first Rolex purchase. I’ve fallen in love with the 41 Datejust smooth bezel with blue face on a jubilee. ( as subs seem impossible)
Is there waiting lists for this kind of model or is it a few week wait. Do AD’s do discounts? Any help would be appreciated massively, thanks all in advance.

Personally I would go fluted bezel on jubilee or smooth bezel with oyster but that’s preference. I would expect some wait and no discount. I waited about 6 weeks and while I wanted sticks, they only had diamonds but I still love it.

I doubt it’s impossible to find but if you choose to use a specific AD then you will probably need to wait, and I wouldn’t count on any discount

Welcome. Depending on your wrist size, the 41 DJ might be too big. I think they have a 36mm blue dial DateJust. Not sure if there’s a smooth bezel, jubilee model though. AD usually have a nice inventory of 36mm DateJust. I hear some AD will do 5% discounts. Good luck, and enjoy whatever you decide on.

+2 on fluted bezel with jubilee bracelet. Smooth and oyster are a better match but hey it is your watch.

Also, if you really want the Sub wait out. In the climate today, you may even be able to get one at or around retail, especially if you factor in tax.

Greetings UK,

I was tracking and agreeing on all until you said "as Sub seems impossible." That is 100% the wrong reason to get the DJ. As your fellow Brits will tell you, you CAN get s Sub in the UK. Its possible. Let's see what your countrymen have to say about the best strategy. But it seems like you will get the most sympathetic ear from AD's near you, especially if you aren't in a big tourist/population centre.

However, even if you have to go grey, get the Sub, if that's what you want. Otherwise you will get the DJ and then still want the Sub, so you are out even more money.

I am based in the UK. I purchased my first Rolex last year, from an AD, with no prior purchase history. It was the 114060 Sub.

Here is the perverse bit. I was building up a history with my local, small town, independent AD. I had already purchased items through them previously (Omega Speedmaster, Wife’s engagement ring, watch straps, services on other watches etc.). I would pop in store every couple of months and I was on first name terms with a couple of the SA’s. Through this “relationship”, they know and have me down for the 114060 & the BLNR.

I know they do have “lists”, because when the BLNR on the Oyster was discontinued, they contacted me to ask if I wanted to remain on the “list”. However........... my ND sub actually came about after visiting a large chain AD, in central London, whilst “window shopping” whilst on a weekend away. I popped in store, had some good small chat with the SA (who happened to be their VIP sales manager), I genuinely believe we built up a bit of rapport in the 20 minutes or so of talking watches. He asked if I would like to leave my details as an expression of interest for the sub (I just thought “Yeah, I’ve read about this. This will get filed in the round cabinet just as I leave”). A few months later I got the call (Frim the London AD) that my watch was available.

In summary........ you just never know.

I'd suggest to wait for the UK shops to reopen. Then you can get a better understanding of availability. No discounts unless it's a less popular model.

Subs are very difficult to get here, for myself I only want a sports/diver Rolex ie Sub or Sea Dweller, I look at the other Rolex watches that might be more obtainable and other brands Tudor, Omega, Breitling but for me personally they aren’t what I want and think if I went down that route I wouldn’t be satisfied.

Subs are available - build an AD relationship and get yourself on their waiting list. Whether this will all change post-lockdown who knows but S/S professional models with my AD never hit the window, bi-metal professional models do though - S/S go to people on their waiting list. If you're not in a position to buy when you get a call then it's offered to the next person on the list.

+5 recommenind jubilee/fluted combo. But as a previous poster said, if you truly want the Submariner, don't settle on the DJ. You should be able to acquire one with very minimal wait during these times.

Since you said "my first Rolex purchase" why not opt for a "dressier" option - fluted on jube or oyster. I "broke the rule" and bought fluted on oyster and I love it! Maybe a lighter dial since the Sub is black. Happy shopping.

Welcome. I love my smooth bezeled, blue dialed DJ 41. Its a great watch. Call your AD's. they are not to hard to find. I can't see any AD giving discounts on SS. Happy hunting.

Agree! But, if you desire a Sub, no matter what configuration DJ you buy, you will probably regret it.
If you like both, no problem- score the DJ 41now and grab the Submariner later. After all, you want to be deliriously happy buying your Rolex, a compromise will taint the entire experience.

I like the config you described OP. Like it a lot. Everyone will tell you to go fluted, but I've tried them on, and a fluted bezel makes the watch very dressy. I've tried the combo you described (smooth plus jubilee) with the black dial (they didn't have the blue), and it wears much better IMO for everyday wear. You could go smooth and oyster, but the jubilee just adds something that makes it feel right and doesn't take away from the sportiness. It's just a stunning combo IMO.
