Just remember the 20-40-60 rule:

At age 20, we worry about what others think of us.
At 40, we don’t care what they think of us.
At 60, we discover that they haven’t been thinking of us at all.

Why does it not say oyster quartz on the dial?

Very good.....
Never heard that before, but it's (probably) very true (..... as I am not 60 yet).

Kids want to conform to their peer group.
Once you leave school it's often better to go left field and do your own thing.

Being a sheep as an adult is as bad as being a black sheep as a kid imo.

It sounds like a skin thickness rather than a skin tone issue. You have the easiest and most potent reply of them all. "It was my father's, it's pretty special to me"

No Response or reply is needed to anyone. I'm glad you have your fathers watch, as well as your own watches.

If you spend your life worrying what others think then you will have a miserable life.

Anyways, I've started to wear my dad's yellow gold oysterquartz, which I do love. It brings back great memories from my dad. He loved this watch. However, since it is yellow gold, it stands out like a sore thumb. I am also fair skinned, where my dad was always tanned; so it sticks out even more. I see my friends and collegues always staring at the watch, and I am concerned about the attention. Some even commentted that it's show off day today I guess to me.. I was just floored. How are others able to pull off a yellow gold Rolex, but I receive so much attention; which I do not like. Often times, I wished my dad would had bought a white gold version so it wasn't so flashy. He was also a tall man at 6'0'', large build; I'm only 5'10''; medium build.

Ideas?
As another member said, don't let other people run your life, that's your job.

You can always say that it's your late father's watch, that will shut them up right smartish.

To answer their "oh, today's show-off day" you can reply, "yes it is, now where's your great watch?" A little puerile, but at least you can throw it back at them.

Personally, I don't really care what others think. If I ever do get any sarcastic or unfavourable comments about any of my watches, I deal with them with a suitable retort. As for any praise, I accept it gracefully (I hope) and if they're genuinely interested have a go at explaining the watch, etc.
Basically, do't worry about what others think.

Beautiful watch. Don’t pay attention to those people. I had the same thing at work with comments. I just ignored them. Enjoy the watch and don’t let others dictate how you feel and want to wear.

I am reminded of this quote - "It is better to be hated than pitied". Wear, enjoy and get them worrying about what you think of them.

Wear what you like and like what you wear. That is all that matters.

You are wearing dads rolex. There is no bigger honour. You set the trend, you lay the path for others to follow, you are the man with the ⚽️ wearing the Rolex.

Let the rest of them gossip and secretly wish they had a dad as awesome as yours.
