There need to be 2 ceramic Daytona, sub, hulk, GMT, batman, Pepsi, seadweller, JC, skyd in all 3 SS dials, a repeat of all these watches in PM (need to include the green dial Daytona too), and then add Daydate, DJ41 and a platona to round up this collection.

I have none of the above. :)

A collection that took good time to build up. To me each piece should represent a significant life event or bring back certain memories.

I think you can attach more meaning and attach more memories to a single brilliantly chosen watch. A collection is nice if you enjoy the chase and need a wide range of applications.

I would choose a collection of watches from different brands and with different complications.
The "Chase" to find exactly what you want can (In my case is) a lot of the fun also.

say,
Rolex:
Day-date
GMT II
Sub date
Patek:
Annual or Perpetual calendar
Nautilus
Aquanaut

Then some watches that are interesting for various reasons:
Harwood
Ball

And that is basically what i have been doing over the years.

Two well-diversified SS Rolex for getting life done, plus a PM special piece.

Like CharlesN said, a Sub, GMT and DD - those would suit me perfectly. But I could go vintage and have a 1655, 1019 plus a 18206.

I’d say three well-balanced pieces is the key though.

Each one of my pieces has an associated vacation tied to it, and I love telling the stories when asked.

Nothing as boring as a huge collection that only includes hard to get ss sporties with mass appeal .

A collection must be interesting and varied.
It does not need to be huge.
A two watch collection can be interesting .

A Grey acquired watch at hugely inflated price does nothing for me .
A simple collection where the buyer had to save money to afford,has a lot of meaning.
The joy of the first Rolex for a buyer is priceless.

What you can afford and what you like are the two best places to start. Buying into trends will only hurt you since they shift in value quickly (look at the green Daytona) and then you’re left with something you might not love.

Then within that range I’d say something dressier and something sportier...depending on what that means to you.

I have an Explorer I 12470 and a 5513, with the Explorer being a more daily wear sport piece.

For me that is one PM model and one steel model. It also needs to have a pop of color. The black dial and ss set isn’t for me. I have no problem with a ss Daytona or a black sub but I know I’ll get bored of it.
