5990 looks sick in every picture. 5712 looks pretty bland a lot of the time unless the light hits the blue right.

My view on both watches:
5712 - blue, slim profile but basic complications.
5990 - has more presence due to the thickness (although only 1mm more than a GMT) and has useful complications. It is like a combined 5968 and 5164.

Both have the Nautilus case/bracelet, are extremely popular, and both could be replaced soon due to the refreshment of the basic 5711. This will be a personal choice to make.

I have both, I got the 5712 in 2019, the 5990 came some weeks ago. I‘m wearing the 5990 24/7, it‘s such a nice watch. It‘s more a „sports watch“ than the 5712. The 5712 is more an elegant „dress sports watch“.

That's fantastic feedback! Thank you. Yeah, my goal is to get both eventually. 5712 was available now, so I went with it. 5990 will come a later.

Based on what I've read, it's not taller than a Daytona, which I'm OK with. I've asked AD to let me know when they have one come in.

I agree that 5990 looks incredible just about every time. The 5712 is beautiful though! It's one of those watches the more you look at it, the more you fall in love with it. Just something VERY special about it.

I will take the 5712 now. Since you don’t know the timeline of the 5990. Anything can happen the next couple of months.

I have the 5712, is more a dressy watch.

5712 is a better watch if you want something more versatile under-the-radar. Plus for me Patek was always about slim watches (but not too slim - sorry Bulgari), and 5712 is perfect this way.

The 5712 has power reserve, moon phase, is thin as a Nautilus should be, has the most beautiful automatic movement ever and a jazzy dial. It is hands down my favorite Nautilus. Now, if YOU prefer the 5990, all I can say is that it is also a great watch.

My AD had both in the safe at the time for other customers so i was lucky enough to be able to see them both but it still took me an hour to choose!

As much as i like the 5712, i went for the 5990. I prefer the complications of the 5990, and the style is more ‘me’. The 5712 is a smarter sports watch as its sleek and the dial really pops. The 5990 is more casual and has more wrist presence.

Arguably the 5990 is quite a move away from the classic Nautilus so if you’re a purist then the 5712 is probably a better bet, but i like watches that are a bit different (I went Sea Dweller not Submariner, 15300 not 15202, Speedy Reduced not Speedy Pro etc.) and the 5990 ticks that box.

Ultimately, in my view, the 5990 is the top of the range steel Nautilus, it suits my style, and the complications are both impressive and useful. I have no regrets and it gets probably 50% wrist time these days despite it sharing the load with 11 other watches.

Congratulation for your 5990!

Congrats on your 5712.

Total grail for me, I think you definitely made the right choice.

I especially love the micro rotor on the back. Well and the watch is just romantic with that gorgeous asymmetric dial that should work, but it just does!

Almost looks like the Pepsi wears larger than the 5990?

They wear very much the same. From some angles the Pepsi wears larger, from other angles the Patek wears larger.
