Baume & Mercier Watches - What do you think?

Curious what the consensus is around B&M watches? I know they normally use the ETA movements and I like their designs, but they do not get much air play on the forums and YouTube channels.

They are a solid brand but definitely buy them second hand if you find one that you like. You will take a bath on it if you buy it new.

My first "nice" watch was a B&M Riviera. Still have it. Good brand for the money.

I agree that you need to buy them second hand. I have two - a Riviera that I have had for decades and a newer Capeland. They keep excellent time and I really like their style. All the talk about brands like Panerai, I like the B&M designs better than most.

Capeland was my first “nice” watch in the early 2000s. It’s a solid brand at a good price point , resale notwithstanding . If I didn’t move onto more expensive brands , I would def look at some of their current offerings like the Clifton Baumatic

Just picked up this Clifton Club on rubber strap from an AD at a discount and really like it.

I like the brand and a lot of the designs. This is a brand that can be found at significant discounts and anyone looking should be so advised. The second hand market is soft at best.

My first mechanical watch and the segue to all of this madness was a Baume et Mercier Classima that I bought from place Vendome in Paris. I still have this watch and it has sentimental value but I rarely wear it nowadays. Although I did bring it out for my wedding last year. In my opinion they are a nice starter watch but if you have had several of the higher end watches (as I can see from you avatar) I don't think they would scratch the itch.

Generally speaking, B&M make good quality, nice looking watches that are a good value if bought grey or used or with a hefty, hefty discount from an AD. Also, the Clifton was clearly the inspiration behind Vacheron's Fiftysix.

If the last statement is true, might be used against VC in the other thread (re Holy Trinity). :)

I agree that Baume makes nice watches. And dealers sell them at a nice discount. As should be the case for all watches.
