Happened to me about a week ago. The person was in a ‘banned’ status when I tried to look the moniker up. Regardless, I immediately changed my password and thanks for this sticky.

Happened to me about a week ago, not sure how they hacked my acct, but they posted a Hulk for sale and even though I replied right away that this was not my watch and switch my password it was too late, according to moderators someone must have sent me an email and click on it but I dont remember doing that.

We have to be very careful nowadays w all the Cybercrime, a while ago I had a guy try to impersonate DavidSW luckily I have his cell on my phone and I called him right away.

I got whacked. They tried 3 times. I was too lazy the first 2 times. Third time I clicked and got whacked a few days later. They tried to sell a fpj and a Daytona. Hopefully nobody got hurt. Cost me 11 dollars to reset my account. More cautious now.

I just got a "fishing" PM from a newly minted member, Howard.kio. I notified the Admin and he is deleting this account --but the Admin said they will join under a new user and continue their scams . Please be especially aware of Users who have recently joined the Forum, and notify the Admins quickly if you receive any fishing messages so that they can take appropriate action .

I’d add this:
Also be wary of PMs from longtime users who have been dormant for years. There’s a good chance their account has been hijacked.

Good point. Forgot to mention that I also received a bogus PM from a user who has been dormant for a while . The Admins were alerted to this user account too. .

I wonder how these these accounts are hacked when they are dormant and therefore no apparent fishing opportunity ?

Personal Message scam ***** pm scam **** pm scam

The older accounts are more valuable in their implied trust by inexperienced users here. The PM scam is to get you hooked.

The whole phishing angle is to get people to click a link or open an attachment. The “gift” you get takes over your machine for purposes ranging from ransomware to identity theft to financial hacking.

Lucky I just saw this and banned him. In future please report suspicious PMs using the red triangle alert button in the message window.

This DM I got from member Benja258 with 0 posts seems odd:

Hey,

My name is Ben and I’m from Israel, I would like to know if it’s o.k. from you how I can get the best Rolex’s watches price for new/pre-owned.
My first goals are to sale those watches to gain profit on them, and the roll up until I can afford myself to by brand new DayDate watch.
I think it will be better to focus on pre owned watches has a start and I really appreciate if you can help/gouid my has a start.

Best regards,
Ben.

I received a PM overnight from a user that has very few posts. He was inquiring about a watch I have listed saying he had questions and asked for my email address. I did not send it but I did reply to the pm asking him what questions he had. Was that a mistake to even respond? I later reported it but hoping responding to a pm within the forum will not create any issues.

Hello.. I just read this thread and it made me worried.. couple of days ago, I visited a thread and opened the links to photos he posted.. then after reading further, I had the impression that he was a scammer. He joimed in January 2019. The first two links linked to pictures of an alleged watch his wife gifted him but he wasn't sure if it was real. The third link was to a fake watch ecommerce website, that also looks like scam site as the pictures displayed were of authentic watches. Can you please check his thread and let me know if those links put my computer at risk? Thank you.
