Where to store a large watch collection?
Okay so I've been thinking about this and can't really think of an answer. Think of a guy like John Mayer. Probably has several hundred watches worth 8 figures. Where does he keep his watches? His house (would it even be safe)? Bank safe? Does he keep all of them in one place or does he rotate? Keep the boxes or throw them away? Winders? How does he ensure security? What does he do when he goes on a trip? What do y'all think?

I'd assume they're insured. No matter how good the safe, someone can still crack it.

He does not have several hundred watches. That’s an absolute guarantee. He probably has a few watches on hand and stores the rest in a bank vault.

My guess would be a combination of offsite storage, insurance, safe(s), alarms, and other security measures.
In order to insure such a collection, an insurance company would potentially want a specific type of safe and this safe could weigh more than a F-350 and could withstand a prolonged attack with a thermic lance. That said, even this type of safe is vulnerable in the sense that someone can force the owner to open it (provided it doesn't have a time delay lock or multiple dials with codes known only by different people), so if we are talking about 8 figures of jewelry, it seems very likely some would need to be stored offsite. |

The tech on it has always fascinated me...the alloys they use along with the composite materials/additives to the composites are pretty neat in how they can stop tooled attacks. It is pretty amazing to think that there is a safe that can withstand a 60 minute thermic lance attack or survive an amount of explosives that would level the building it was installed in. That's not necessarily what would be a good match for most people, but for someone insuring several million dollars of jewelry, it could prove a pretty sound investment. And even if not, it still is pretty cool!
