Vintage Rolex identification
good morning all
i am new to this forum and indeed to Rolex watches in general. i have a Rolex watch passed down to me from my Grandfather that i am trying to get more information on. it was giving to my Grandfather in 1959 according to the inscription on the back. on the front it reads " ROLEX OYSTER, below that is 60M=165ft. at the bottom it says PRECISION. on the case at the top between where the strap would attach it reads BREVET+ and a model no. which is either 6422 or 6432 i cant quite make it out as it has worn where the strap was rubbing. on the bottom off the case below the 6'oclock position it reads 122678 which i understand to be the serial number. i have found lots of pictures of very similar watches online, but cant find any that have the 60M=165ft on the face. |

Ive seen it on 6422s before, it should be 50m which is equivalent to 165ft. If yours says 60 then it may have been repainted and someone goofed.

good morning,
thanks for the reply. it does actually say 50M not 60M as i said. so it is a 6422 then? does it make it any rarer as it has this on it? or is it just that some did an some didnt. regards Richard |

As I understand it, that dial with the depth rating is relatively uncommon. So, a nice heirloom.
We'd be glad to see some pictures. |

It is not a sought after piece, so it's overall condition would dictate it's value in todays market more than the dial alone.

They are rarer but that doesnt necessarily add to its value due to the smaller size watches being out of favor with current collectors.
