Every Day Watch
I'm thinking of getting a TAG Heuer for an everyday watch, does anyone have one and do they like them?

Welcome to TRF Glad to have you I have a 2000 quartz. It's a good watch, durable and accurate as can be, but not really my cuppa

Welcome. No, I don't have a TAG, I have to admit that I like them. My 'daily' watch is a Rolex Sub, looks great with everything and is a long lasting watch.

I just sourced one of those for my BIL. Very solid feeling and great looking. Not sure about the timing but for the discount that can be had, it seems like a winner to me.

Hey DUC. I don't know anything about TAGs, but just for the heck of it, why not try a Seiko Black Monster? I know atomic has had a Tag and now has a BM and he really enjoyes it. If the Tag is something you're ever going to sell you'll take a beating on it, where as the BM can be had for around $150 US NIB. If you're not happy with it, you won't loose much, if anything at all on it. It might be something to think about. Just my .02 Here's a pic of mine.

Welcome to TRF. While some of the TAG models are more appealing than others, it is important to note that once you buy a TAG don't think of selling it. You will take a big hit on it. They are certainly well made watches with some top class quality control behind them, but buy one for keeps. So choose once, but choose well. On the other hand, if you don't want to tie up too much of your funds in a watch, but would rather save up for a Rolex, then the SEIKO BM above is an excellent watch for daily use. JJ

Well have to agree with Paulie Mailman, Seiko is a true value brand and very reliable. If you are looking for a auto watch, there are many eta based, and are every bit as good as the Tag.

As Paul mentioned, I owned a TAG Heuer Kirium quartz and wore it daily everywhere for three years before it got religated to my watch caddy for three years once the Rolex came along. I paid $1200 for it and amazingly sold it for $500. Not bad.
But for the money you drop on a TAG (automatic or quartz) there lots of other watches that give you way more value. Personally I would never buy a quartz watch again, particularly if it cost more than $100. If you're spending over or around $1,000, you have plenty of options. For example, the Seiko Monster as pictured above. I've had mine since early December and for the price, you can't beat it. Mind you, it's so ugly it's cool... but it's a love it/hate it kind of watch. There is Oris, who make a superb auto diver watch for well under US$1,000... there's Hamilton, lots and lots of options. I'm not knocking TAG, because I enjoyed mine (until I got my Rolex) and it took everything I could throw at it without missing a beat. But I got caught up in their marketing and made a purchase based on what was 'cool' at the time, without doing my homework. That said, TAG autos are nice watches too, but for the money, you can get an auto with the same (or better) auto movement in it, for half the price. Good luck. |

I’ve got a Yacht Master right now, but I don’t like wearing it to work because of the business I’m in, the customers might think I make to much money and not buy any product. The Tag I’m getting is through rewards points that I earned at work thru a lender of ours, won’t cost me a dime.
