Does your PM Daytona bezel scratch at 75?

Was looking at some Daytonas in PM at a dealer in UK and noticed that many of them have similar signs of usage on the bezel. Dings, scratches and marks at around 75 on tach scale.

The marks at 75 are on the opposite side of crown so no protection from side but on the other hand it is the side you normally wear towards your body so shouldn't scratch.

Does this happen you too? Or are these watches coming from people wearing watches on the right hand?

Does anyone know cost of replacing a Daytona PM bezel at service?

If you wear any watch its that side that will take the most hits in general wearing.

May be due to gold being soft and rubbing against sleeves over a long period of time?

I did not know that.. would have thought it is the more protected side.

Huh.. I guess a starched shirt cuff sliding over thousands of times for a few years could very well do that.

Soft metals. Buy steel/ceramic.

Does your PM Daytona bezel scratch at 75?

Do not forget the extra rubbing that occurs when pulling your hand out of front pocket of your shorts, jeans and slacks.

An interesting long-term double-blind study would be to compare the bezels of male owners to female owners. Would rummaging in purses be different than pants pocket wear?

Either way, the ceramic bezels end this problem.

Oh...the cost - well it varies by SS vs Gold. But the RSC total will include a service methinks. So the $700-ish Gold bezel will actually set you back almost $2,000 if nothing else need replacement.

If you’re a DIY’er, $800-1000 could get you a NOS Gold one. About half that for SS.

Shirt/jacket sleeves in general wear
Jacket studs
Cufflinks
Pocket extraction of hands

Will all cause bezel damage like that.

And people who feel the need to have their watch on display at all times by using the watch to hold up their sleeves will see greater than average wear on gold bezels (and case sides) by doing so.
