Need some sparring with you guys on my 1625

So I have this 1625 that I am bit hesitant about. In the summer, in the correct light it’s a fantastic watch but then for the rest of the year it doesn’t seem to find its place with me...it’s just plain and feels like a big chunk of steel : )

Summer pics:

And here is a picture where the watch is just plain:

So what do I do...have the WG-bezel rhodium plated to get more of a pop on the WG...?
Sell it?
Change to a silver dial like this one?

I wouldn't mess around with this watch, if you don't like it sell/trade it for something that you can wholeheartedly be excited with and satisfied.

You are probably correct...another option would be to keep it as a safe queen due to the rarer slate dial...what do you think?

It's gorgeous!

Just sell it and get what you would like.

I think it looks great, but if you don't find yourself reaching for it to wear, that's more relevant than my opinion. I have had a number of watches that look great in photos, but just didn't thrill me in person, and I've never regretted selling them. (In fact, I have one that fits that category now, and I really need to get around to listing it.)

Send to it to me and I’ll enjoy wearing it from September to May

The big problem with these is the dials, very hard to get and NOT interchangeable with the 160X series. I ended up trading my two-tone 1625 for a 16250 with an UGLY dial, installing a glossy black dial with Roman chapters and being very happy. I love the 1625, but I really love the 16250. I'm not comfortable thinking too far outside the box.

I am actually concerned about the regret...will be so mad if I 6 months after selling it start to regret it...

I hear ya! Might probably be hard to source a silver dial for it...

The regret is what kills me. With some things like watches I have promised myself I would not sell them so easily. With other collectibles I will sell if I get the right price for them.

The watch looks great but I can see what your talking about. It doesn’t pop out at you, it’s a good looking watch. The slate dial is part of the issue.

You know what I have been wanting, a bad ass oysterquartz. You could sell this and buy something like that?

Sell it with no regrets. I’m sure after this preview you’ll have a bit of interest.

I have the OQ 17014 which I love so that’s a done deal already for me. You should get one, they are crazy well built and sturdy! Feels nearly like a 6-digit Rolex when it comes to solidness...

I guess lots of us have watches that we feel like this about.

Sell it if you need the cash. Otherwise keep it on the subs' bench. It's not going to go massively up or down in value.

(BTW, I once got a warning for making a "Should I sell this watch?" post. I was told I was breaking the rules by advertising the watch for sale on the forum. I wasn't. Guess they've relaxed the policy.)

If you love it for 3-4 months of the year I'd say that's worth keeping in the collection if you don't need the cash.

You guys make some valid points, leaning more and more towards keeping it as is and use it in the summertime...might just put it back on an Oyster bracelet and see how it looks...

Finding a dial will be difficult. It's not the same dimesions as a regular datejust dial

I had the almost exact same watch, I sold it eventually for the same reasons you are doubting it... I just went into a auction house, told them to sell it for me and that was it.

I sort of miss it sometimes, but well, not really.

Yes, it is!

Your watch seems to be in better shape, the case looks like it has been polished less than the one I had. Mine had the serial number engraved in the case back. It was an early 70s watch.

Oh, if you think you will miss the lightness and no-nonsense feeling of it, I got that from my Tudor BB58 blue now.

I love the backstory with the Thunderbirds, so it’s cool for sure...that’s one of the reasons I still have it...

They did a flyover, literally right over my house this summer. It was exciting, but the Blue Angels are head and shoulders above them IMO. Maybe it's due to that really bad multi-plane accident they had, I don't know, but it's not quite as thrilling as seeing the Blue Angels. When they flew together over NYC this summer, the contrast was obvious, just in the distance between planes. The Blue Angels weren't even socially distanced while flying. ;-)

perhaps try it on a strap to add some color. any brighter shade of blue would look great with that one.

Very cool! Didn’t even know that they were still active!
