My New 1675

Hi TRF,

I’m finally on the board with my new 1675, which is a keeper. As some of you know, Ive been hunting for a 16750 for a while, and bought one recently but wasn’t entirely happy with it and returned it. I had found another 16750 from a TRF member, which I was in the process of getting. Little did I know, my family had bought me a surprise birth year 1675, which I received yesterday whilst on holiday.

Now the watch is something of a mutt, like it’s owner. The case and movement are original to its year of production, the date wheel has open 6s and 9s (which puts them in period, but as to the exact year, I can’t say), the oyster bracelet dates to 1991, and the matt dial and hands are “Swiss” service replacements with luminova, which puts them around 1998-1999. Funnily enough, those years are also significant.

I’m completely thrilled with the watch as I liken it to a modern vintage. At heart its a vintage, but has the modern matt luminova look. I know for many purists, the watch is heretical. However, it’s all in the eye of the beholder, and this guy is completely beholden! All I need to do is get a black bezel (which I’m getting from Springer), and I’m set.

Best,
TA

Looks great!

Makes me wish the Luminova service dials for the 16750 were matte!

Very similar to mine, with the service dial and hands.

I prefer to think of these as "Useable Vintage".

Having a dial that glows at night is so nice!

Purists, for the most part, are idiots. Enjoy your 1675 just as it is. :)

Hi TRF,

I really appreciate the comments and kind words. It’s great to be on the board as a genuine vintage owner, and I couldn’t be happier with the watch or the circumstances in which I received it.

Although, it raises a separate question which I’ll pose separately.

Best,
TA

Enjoy your 1675. i bought one early this year and its one of my favorite watches.
I bought a matte 16750 last month and between the 2, i still like the 1675.

Congrats, you can wear it without worries, after all Rolex itself approved it ;) !!! Wear in good health, and smile everytime you see it.

Just saw Albert Rosenfield in twin peaks wear his gmt!

Indeed, but then I'm done. The black bezel is such a sleeper, and so stylish.

Outstanding!

This would be my preference too. My grail watch is a 1675 with a SCL bracelet and service dial and hands, and a new pepsi bezel.

Wear it in good health and with great pride!
