Need your advice...trade a 5296G for a 5107G?

Hi all- I wanted to get the opinions of the members here.

I am currently thinking about trading my 5296G Sector Dial for a 5107G.

I just got the 5296G a few weeks ago and I don’t seem to be bonding with it. I’m not sure if it would take some time (as some of my other watches take) before it grows on me but for the moment I find it a bit too plain.

I used to own a 5107G and sold it off for a succession of Calatravas (and a brief flirtation with the Aquanaut) but the 5107G always had a place in my heart. I love the sinuous curves and the crown guards as well as the “glow,” if you will, of the Rhodium plated white gold.

I have a chance to trade my 5296G for the 5107 but I’m not sure yet if I need to give the 5296 more time. I feel the 5296G may fit my relatively casual daily attire better than the 5107, but I have other watches that could also do the job.

With the recent discontinuation of the 5296 I am thinking that it may bode well for me to keep it for the moment, though.
Any thoughts on the relative value of both? The 5296G is from 2013 and the 5107 is from 2005.

Do you guys think a straight trade would be fair?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Here are some photos of my 5296 and my dear departed 5107.

Sector dial doesn't work for me so I would make the trade, I wouldn't hang on in the hope of future value either, I'd just decide on what you like most on you.

Try the sector with different straps, you’ll be surprised how the watch changes. Check out my recent posts...

For Calatravas, I like clean dials. At the end of the day, best to get and wear the watch that will bring a smile to your face

When it comes to these decisions only you can decide what works for you best. Personally I love the 5296G Sector Dial, its fantastic! And I agree with Turborolex, try a different strap on it and it will give it some new life. But at the end of the day if the watch doesn't make you smile when you look at it then its time to go! Good luck with you decision and let us know what you decide...

I’m biased and the sector dial gets the majority of my wrist time. That said, we all have different tastes and if you can’t bond with it move on and don’t look back. You may want to try another strap though before you do.

I would think if you trade your pre-owned 5296G for a pre-owned 5107G you'd need to get some cash back. Go with what really sings to you which from your post seems to be the 5107G.

Thank you for your responses. The taupe strap sure looks amazing on the watch.

The only thing better than the 5107 is the 5107 on the bracelet.

I wouldn´t do the trade or a 5107G as I don´t like the crown guards on a dress watch. Only trade I´d consider is for a 5227G with ivory dial.

The date function ruins the sector dial in my view. I love the clean dials on Calatravas so I would do the trade.

I like how the three hands have different lengths and it’s very easy to read. I also like how the dial changes color in different lighting.

Here is my 5396 on a vintage calf strap outdoors as an example.
