My friend is being offered a 2001, ref. 3706 Fliegerchronograph at around $3,000 (sorry for price mention). he's asking the opinion of other people if that is a fair enough price and would the watch be worth it and if it can hold its value? thank you guys. :)

If the watch is used that is too much to spend.
What is the condition of the watch, does it come with box papers and all, has it had a factory service? All of this comes into play.

As for a watch holding its value.... No one knows but not likely, most of the time watches are like cars and unless you are buying a very high end limited production model they won't grow in value although Rolex does tend to hold its value fairly well after the initial depreciation.

My friend said that the watch is used, it is in complete package (box, papers, etc.) It has an IWC leather strap aside from the steel bracelet. He also added that it has just finished undergoing a $500 service from IWC.
