Yacht Master - Please Review

Hello All,

I am new to the forum here and have joined because I recently inherited this Yacht Master. This is my first Rolex and as it came with no documentation I would like to ensure its authenticity. I have taken the watch to two Rolex dealers and they confirmed it is authentic but of course, more opinions are better and this forum seemed like the right place to do that. The face & back are in great shape and the band has some normal wear. Please leave your comments and suggestions.

Thank you,
Zach

If you had this checked out by rolex dealers and they confirmed authenticity then you should be okay. If in doubt you can always take it to AD or send it in to Rolex for service to make sure.

Welcome....
& IMO if two AD's have authenticated it I don't think you need further verification....
Do you??

Model No. is 16623. Here's what the original clasp of the TT YM should look like.

JJ , (don't want to go on the tosser list but) any chance it's a 168623. Looks like a mid size to me and that's quite a bit of wear for a 166 since they've only been out for a few years? A referance shot would be helpfull.

Yes, I'm sorry, you are right. That is a mid-size judging mainly from the TWINLOCK smaller crown.

Thanks you for all of your comments. Like I mentioned, this is my first Rolex and I really know nothing about them so anything you can write about the watch will be helpful. Any idea what a used watch like this is worth?

I don't think its real....

1. Take a close look in photo 2, notice there is a serial number on the end link. I think on a YM like that the serial number should be inside the clasp.

Yes, it does look fishy. Compare the crown on that clasp and notice how crudely it's been finished as compared with my picture of the crown.

I see what you mean about the Crown on the clasp.... That would be very disappointing to find out this watch is a fake.

Well, if you want peace of mind, any good watchmaker will be able to evaluate that.

Good luck - JJ

Not sure if the band has been replaced... I see what you mean about the crown. I will be back home at the end of March so I can pick up the watch and post some more detailed pictures.

Were these two Rolex dealers Authorized Dealers? Given some on this forum suspect it's a fake, I'd be surprised then if you did take it to an Authorized Dealer. I can't imagine an AD making this kind of mistake.

Did the two Rolex dealers open the watch to review the movement? Did they also remove the band to review the serial number? Even though it may have the correct serial number, how it was engraved can be a tell-tale sign.

We do not purchase any pre-owned Rolex's unless my Rolex technician reviews the watch, including movement before an offer is made.

What I've seen so far, replica Daytona's are the number one fake that comes in the store, followed by the ladies DateJust.

Be sure to ask the dealers how they verify authenticity. Eye-balling the watch isn't the professional way.

Take it to Rolex & ask them to check the movement as it's losing time. They will check it for free. If it's fake they will confiscate the watch & if it's real, they will give you a receipt to say it's been checked & adjusted at no charge. That bit of paper will be better than any AD check.

But like the previous comments from my TRF colleagues, it does look odd.

Can they just take the watch? If it is fake?

Hey everyone,
I am finally back home and have the watch in my possesion now. I will have my friend take some better pictures for me for you all to look at it. I must be honest, I should have said my mother when I said I had taken the watch in to be looked at. So, within in the week I will have some better pictures and I will be taking the watch down to the Ben Bridge in Honolulu for myself.

Fake because:

dial printing looks off

crown on clasp looks dull

bracelet links look too rounded

Does the bezel turn in both directions?

Talked to my mother, she said the person at Ben Bridge told her the watch had been refurbished. This could explain the band. Is it common to have a band replaced when having a watch refurbished? What generally takes place for refurbishment? Just depends on what is wrong I suppose.

I appreciate all your help.
