Another "What would you do?" thread:

Would you go for a 5980-1R

or take a 5711R + a 5980AR for only ever so slightly more?

Opinions appreciated!

5711R + 5968 and save yourself some cash.

Prefer the 5968 over the 5980 as the pushers distort the beautifully symmetric Nautilus case.

Don't like two tone which will always remain a niche market as well IMO.

Def 5711 plus the AR. One you get two watches and two the dial on the AR may be the nicest Nautilus dial ever.

Option 2.

Both the 5711r and 5980 1ar is more wearable and nicer than the 5980 1r. Pam66 has had all 3. So he can tell you from experience. Watchluv has the 5980 1r and the 5711r so he could shed his view

My experience is with the 5980 1R and the 12r. And a bunch of steel ones. I will tell you the 1r while is a good looking watch for that 1 special evening,...it’s not as wearable given the heft.

As a side note... buy all the steel ones instead, more enjoyable to wear :). If you were to keep 2 nautilus forever. It should be the 5711 and 5712.

I'd take the two but with the view that I'd probably trade the AR for something else after a few months, not sure the TT bracelet is a keeper, but love the dial.

11/R and 80/AR

Love the 80AR — but still partial to the 80/1A

I don't own the AR but the blue dial is definitely "something else". Having seen it in real life, it's amazing.

I own a 11/1R and 80/1R. The 80/1R is heavy. It's good for a watch meetup, but to wear it over a longer period of time is simply not preferable. It's a brick of gold on your wrist... The distribution is a lot better than Rolex's full gold pieces in the 250 grams category, but it is overall just top-heavy and can become a bit of a pain in the a**e. It's beautiful, but I don't see that used as a "daily". It's a watch you take out, dust off, put on for 3-6 hours and then put away again for a few weeks.

The 5711/1R is my new favourite piece. It goes well with casual wear and suits/tux. It's slim and the weight is just overall much better. Add the 80/1AR and you have a chrono function with a blue beautiful dial.

Option #2 is for me if given the above choice and question.

PS. Just wrote fat_ninja's response; agreed. 80/1R is for the 1 special evening.

It’s got the very cool factor to it and it’s still honeymoon stage when I put it on... it’s just good for a day. Not continuous use

Not many. Reality is that not anyone can afford an 85K watch. Only on Instagram does that happen everyone is a billionaire.

Agree, the 5980/1ar is super sexy! While 5711R is very classy.

Eventhough I highly rate the 5980/1r, I would go with the 2 watches.

Everyone wants to buy one because they can flip it for the double. That floodgate has been stopped so mostly only collectors get them.

Fact still remains Instagram has more billionaires and millionaires than the world population
