10 rolexes but buying 'affordables'
I've got a 10 rolex collection but lately I've been buying a string of Seikos, Squales, etc. And I'm really enjoying them. Haven't been wearing the Rolex lately much at all. Is that normal?! What does it mean? Anyone else go through something similar?

Personally prefer variety in a collection. Also price is a wash. If you like it, buy it

Yes. I have many high end watches, but still enjoy my G shock, Shinola on the quartz side and i'm chasing a 70's funky omega right now. Watches don't have to be expensive (or modern, or even mechanical, sacrilege I know) to speak to you...

Yes. My G Shock DW5600-BB is the watch I wear the most. Second is my Sarb033. Timex is also in the rotation.

It's just a phase, it will pass.

I think there's tons of watches that offer amazing value for money. G Shock is one exame mentioned here. Seiko is a brand that offers it on the whole.
Go for it I say. |

I have been looking at lots of watches lately that are WAY cheaper than Rolex. It’s actually been fun to check them out. I still like Rolex but the hype and issues sourcing them has kind of turned me off from the brand.

I won't really say hype. To me an item can be said to be hyped if it doesn't match up in quality. But we know Rolex is not about that and they've stood the test of time because they're maintain that top notch quality.

I like watches. I have way too many. Some of them are Rolex and I have a particular liking for the brand. Past that, I'm open to anything that I find interesting. They are usually less expensive.

Do you wear the watch or the price tag?

Absolutely, yes! I have a bunch of Seikos and G-Shocks, they’re really fun to buy and to wear. Unless the price of a watch is prohibitive for me, it has little to do with my watch buying decisions or enjoyment.

Absolutely. Variety is the spice of life! Rolex sits aside Omega, IWC, Tudor, 6 x G Shock squares, and an Owl (Start up), in my collection.
The Apple Watch is still pricking my attention, but I still can’t pull the trigger. Is it actually a watch or an iPhone on the wrist. Something is holding me back. |

I have. And after exploring that end you will also get the itch to explore the opposite end of the price spectrum. Rolex is nice. But there are other nicer watches out there.

When you buy a Rolex, you are paying about 75% for the name.

I've followed a similar path with watches that are much less expensive and enjoy all of my collection. My most recent three purchases have been Hamiltons, it's great to mix things up

My Rolex collection has taken a back seat to my interest in Seiko and Grand Seiko, especially vintage (1960s-70s) over the last few years. The Seiko rabbit hole is deep and long, and fun.

I am a huge fan of Rolex and have started and will end with the brand. With that said, I also really like Tudor, Seiko/Grand Seiko/Panerai/ Omega/Hamilton/Tissot, you get the thought. I own 11 Rolex watches and a majority of the wrist time goes to Seiko and Tudor. That is a trend right now that will change or not and I will be off onto something else. I stopped worrying about getting wrist time for my collection and just wear what I want when I want and for as long as I want. Then I move on. Do the same and just embrace the watches you own with no rules. Enjoy.

I have a big Seiko collection and I am expanding my Casio G Shock collection. The economic turmoil makes one not confident in dropping a ton of money on a watch now.

I think watches are like dating, you go through phases and outgrow certain characteristics. Your tastes develop and expand, that’s a good thing. You may come back to Rolex but for now enjoy the horizon. I have not had a Rolex in rotation in 2 years..

I love my cheap and cheerful mechanical affordables. They get a lot of wrist time. They look great and they're fairly accurate. Unbeatable value and good fun.

Love the idea of not worrying about wrist time! Alright let me step this one up a notch since people think I'm normal which I'm delighted about :) How about buying homages of luxury watches you actually own??
