5167 bracelet removal.. Help pls...

I need to replace the strap on my 5167. Was too agressive on the sizing and warmer weather has already shown me the error of my ways.

Having a devil of a time getting the strap off, and afraid I'll scratch up the lugs or case. I am using a bergeon 6825 with fine forks - is there a better tool for this job? Maybe I just lack patience & fine motor skills.

Any tips/tricks from fellow owners/others would be greatly appreciated. Going to have another go at it this weekend when I have more time.

Thanks!

oh dear the infamous Bergeon fine fork watch molestor tool being put to action

as JDTX recommends take it to a Patek boutique or a Patek AD who has a watchmaker

looking at the 5167 there is very little room to play with and while it could be done no need to risk ruining the case

The tool works just fine thanks, have used it many times on my other watches, and on the deployment buckle of this one. That said, it is also terrific at peeling off slivers of a watch case, hence my caution in using it in the instant situation.

There is not an AD close to me nor any watchmaker I would trust to do the job properly. I guess it's going to have to wait for the next trip.

maybe tape it up really well... although if it slips you're in trouble.. might also stap the tool through a finger!

Yes, I have enough invested already, without adding blood.

Hi Darlinboy,

When sizing the strap I used painting tape that provided a nice protective fit. The tape had a nice hold of the sides of the clasp so that even if you veered off course it would cause any permanent damage.

You may want to try something like this with the lugs, may do a double layer to be even more cautious.

Good luck! David
