Adding a little yellow to the rotation...

Well... I have been hanging out with VC way too much. I have been in search for a 5970J for about 3 months now. My search concluded today. I only found 3-4 5970J’s readily available and for sale in the world on this search. In contrast, I came across ~15 5970P's. If anyone wants a P let me know. Maybe I will be fortunate enough to add the P to my collection one day as well. I saw some good deals on pre-owned P. Many G’s and R’s were offered. I am not kidding. But for now the J is the latest addition!

I want to thank SteelerFan and VC for their help. It is really nice to add the old (5970) to the new (5270). And some J to my G... I am going to have to agree with hutchman, the 5270 is a more advanced and exact watch from case to movement. The 5270 represents the present and the future. The 5970 represents the last of the past. And the J is fitting to me because it is the most “classic” of the 5970 references.

About the 5970J… It debuted at Basel 2008. The reference was manufactured for 9 months. Distributed for roughly 12 months from what I am told. It was discontinued for the 5970P at Basel 2009. I confirmed with Patek that it was indeed the least produced 5970 by many. Is uses the Caliber CH 27-70Q movement by Lemania finished by Patek. The case is 40MM (truly it is 39mm)

I am truly blessed to be able to particpate in this hobby and own such great works of art.

Hot damn myopiccoog - I've sent you about 100 text messages about this over the last 24 hours and I still can't get over how nice that looks. By itself, and on you!

Congratulations man!

Also, I can't tell very well from the pic but does it come with the brown strap in matte or shiny? In any case, the brown looks great for the J. And IMHO much more flexible both for casual and formal wear (unless you're going for an all-black evening event of sorts).

Good stuff!

Brown with a hint of red. Correct it is matte. VC, I have this for black tie!

Clark beautiful addition! The J is stunning. You have have the son (5270) and it's father (5970)! Enjoy it to the fullest. Can't wait to see it soon!

Excellent photos and what a watch! This forum needs to come with a health warning. First VC's 3970P and now this.....

Would be good to get your thoughts on how this compares to the 5270 for day to day wear. Are they both of a similar build quality and durability. How does the Lemania compare to the in house mechanism. Does it have a touch of nostalgia and warmth that the more up to date 5270G doesn't have?

Looks like the J is the one to get. I do hope there is one available for me when I decide to pull the trigger.

I think a 3970P, a 5970J and a 5270G could be the ultimate tripple slam.

First of all Thanks!

The 5270 is a much better product because of the technology behind it from case to movement. It is like the new 2013 Range Rover to the 2012 Range Rover. The looks are different for better or for worse but the 2013 is an upgrade all around. Drive it once and you will know it the second you step on the gas. The 5270 wears more comfortably too because the case is lower profile and movement is thinner. Winding the 5270 is silky smooth. Pushing the chrono's is effortless. Not so much the case with the 5970. But again the movement the 5970 had been around in its current form since 1986 I believe.

The 5970J in particular has a very retro/classic look it combines the 2499 and the 3970 into a 39/40MM case. I like if for different reasons. It is like owning a classic car even though it hasn’t been gone from production for too long.

Wore the 5970J to work for the first time today. Have only wore it around the house and out to dinner thus far.

Very different than the 5270
