Is it relatively safe to store watch in Bank’s safety box?

I am not talking about the Swiss bank. I mean the bank such as Bank of America, Chase, etc.

It’s safe until it isn’t. Nothing is 100% safe. But relatively speaking it’s safe. I’ve done it and I still have my watches.

The pros and cons of storage at the bank vs storage at home including tactics around having safe(s) at home have been discussed at length here recently (I believe when the NYT article was published). Just can't find that thread at the moment.

You may also want to review the insurance related threads.

Very secure. Your biggest risk is going to and from the bank.

It is if you live on Billionaire's Row and have £50m of jewellery in your bedroom.

I started a similar thread on the Rolex watch forum a couple of months ago. The general consensus was buy a large safe and keep your watches at home. I agree to a point. I hate going to the bank to get my watches, so accessibility is definitely improved. That said the bank is overall safer in my opinion.

The answer to your question is yes. Also safe deposit box. Not safety cheers

For some reasons, this thread reminds me of heist movies, like Italian Job, Bank Job, Inside Man, Out of Sight, Ocean series, etc.

I remember a similar thread somewhere, showing how the bank didn’t assume any responsibility when something happened. So yeah nothing is 100% safe. You could put them in your safe at home , which is also not 100% safe. I decided to leave them in the bank just on those times that I go on vacation. I can’t remember the last time (in my area) that a bank was assaulted, but I think I do remember comments that a house was victim of a robbery. So the probabilities seem to be higher on a house than a bank , of course this is just an inference/anecdotally but that’s something that makes sense to Me .
On a regular basis I keep them at home in my safe , hate going to bank every time you need a change up. That’s impractical

Just remember, all the bank is providing is the safe. They are not insuring anything within the safe. Banks and safe deposit boxes do get robbed from time to time.

So make sure to keep your watches insured.

Save the money and get a good home alarm, camera system and safe. If someone gets it then they were going to get them somehow.

Like the man says,

- Alarm system that phones in to a security service
- Grade III (at least) safe, more safes if you have more watches than 90K in value. More safes is better than a bigger/higher grade safe. More safes means more hassle to get into and takes more time.
- Watch insurance (expensive but necessary)

Down side of having you watches at your home is the possibility of a (armed) house invasion
Down side of a safe deposit is everything mentioned above

Used B of A and they kept telling me I had not paid my bill each and every year even though it was auto draft. I read the tea leaves and took my stuff and ran.

I think the best thing is have A good safe in the closet, and a little one hidden somewhere good where you put in the real valuables

As long as the employees have no idea what you are storing I don't see an issue. I've heard horror stories.
