LOL it's odd, but my legs hurt more on the grommers holding the edge. I usually do 1 warmup on the groomers and the hit the bumps. These 54 year old knees ski enjoy it.

Another patroller took this photo of me waiting for a lift chair with one of the youngest members of the developmental alpine ski team. Cute little guy, and a really good skier.

Totally awesome job you have. When trouble hits, your people are Gods of the Slopes! Great outfit, also. Blizzard-ready!

How do skis wear out? The edges cannot be sharpened any more? Lose their spring?

Of course, if someone thought you were talking about the "other" snow

The Volkl skis I used for the last two years had gouges in the bottom. They can be repaired to a degree. The edges wear out after frequent sharpenings. The bindings get worn due to the constant wet-dry cycles and pounding from boots snapping in and out. They look worn. And of course, researching new skis, finding the best pro deals and buying the next pair are all great fun.

We had two great days of snow fall, but now the cold has arrived. I know it's cold, because when I go outside in the front yard, this is what I see. Not just sundogs, but almost complete sun circles caused by ice crystals in the air.

Nope. Just live in the beautiful state of Minnesota, the nation's icebox. That's a frozen lake covered in snow. It looks much more inviting in the summer.

Hoping to hit Mt. Bald/aka 'Baldy' at Sun Valley sometime this winter season as I received a couple of mid-week/season tickets from the AD after purchasing a Submariner last summer.

Speaking of ski patrol, those 'pro-patrol' specialists really blow my mind. I once had an opportunity @6:30AM to take the chairlift and ski alongside three of them. It opened up a whole new skiing perspective/experience after they set the explosive charges for avalanche prevention/control and the group leader simply said "OK. Let's get out of here."

Wow! Looks like so much fun. You both ski very well.

Maybe someone can explain to me how liquid water can fall in the form of drizzle through thousands of feet through the atmosphere on a -12 degree F day and freeze instantly upon landing on my goggles. In the meantime, if I spit, it's frozen by the time it hits the snow.

We are now entering the cold season. Forecasts for temps in the -25 degree range with -45 degree F wind chills.

Under Armour, don't fail me now!

On the map below, we are east of Fargo. Into western Minnesota where it's even colder than Fargo and Grand Forks. Probably not a lot of skiers out on the hill this morning.

It's cold. But it's a dry cold....

Just wrapping up my favorite kind of Friday - no work with deep powder on the mogul and tree runs. #lifeisgood

Out here in the Sierra Nevada in California a lack of snow is not a problem. Too much snow is right now. I was going to go up to Mammoth this weekend but had to cancel because of the weather. Good thing I did because I found out they closed the highway to Mammoth tonight. They can't plow anymore so now they are trying to truck out the snow. And more snow is forecast all weekend.

I just got an idea for a TRF giveaway!

Yeah, CO had to shut down some resorts 2 weeks ago due to too much snow. We're well over 150% of average snow pack. I'm hoping it persists. We got off to a slow start before Thanksgiving, but have been getting hammered since. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

At least the snow out west will hopefully help alleviate the serious drought we've been having for a few years now. Funny that last year an El Nino was forecast and we got next to nothing. I think they missed it by one year.

The skiing will be epic up there. They had tons of snow prior to this set of storms coming through. This weekend is just bad timing between not being able to get to the mountain even with chains, and white out conditions all weekend. Not to mention driving all the way there and back in the pouring rain. I'm going in two weeks.

Another great day skiing. The tree runs at Parsenn Bowl on Mary Jane at Winter Park are some of my favorite in the state.

Thanks Larry. We just figured out a few weeks ago how easy it is to put together phone video clips with iMovie.

As for the turns, some didn't feel as well as others today. Little crusty under the soft stuff and I'd occasionally get squirrely. Haven't had a lesson in probably 25-30 years, but we signed up for mogul lessons for a week from Sunday. I do fine in the soft stuff, but when it gets hard packed, I lose my nerve. Going to see if they can give me some pointers so I can rip it in any conditions.

The ski season 2019 begins here next Saturday. We've been making snow for almost three weeks. So today I am tuning my skis. Sharpening edges and waxing the bases. Can't wait to take the first run Saturday morning. We will have almost as many ski patrollers as patrons for first tracks. Wearing the Sea-Dweller 16600 today.

You must be excited, Joey. I know you're going to enjoy the season and look forward to your posts. That Sea-Dweller is one of my favourites!

Ski Season Is Finally Here

Live near Park City, UT, so skiing is obviously part of our DNA. Not withstanding 3 broken vertebrae and 4 broken ribs 7 years ago at PCMR...

I know you’ve had your own incident, Joey. Keep up the good work on SP!

Here on the "Ice Coast" things are finally statrting to get going. My son and I went to Hunter Mountain, about a 2 1/2 hour drive from NYC yesterday on its openning weekend. Seven trails open, conditions okay, but I got to ride my brand new Never Summer board, which was awesome and we had a great day.

Today, my legs are aching, but in a good way.

Here's to a great (and safe) season to all

Opening a week early. We usually open the Friday after Thanksgiving, but some years it's too warm and it is delayed until December.
