For $40-45K you one should be able to get into a higher mileage 997.2 C2. No IMS to worry about, and far lower incidence of bore scoring (though the 997.1 3.6 in the base Carrera seems to have a pretty low incidence relative to the 3.8 in the S). The 9A1 in the .2s has proven to be quite reliable to well over 100K miles. Regarding the original topic of this thread, I'm starting to see 991.1 GT3s pretty close to $110K pop up on Rennlist from time to time. If you can live with PDK, then these seems like a fantastic deal. |

I hear you on that. Pretty much all p cars tank in value post 50k miles. Much smaller pool of buyers whether justified or not.

Agree to disagree. The value difference is significant in my opinion even with those gems.

I never understood the love for the GT3 unless you just live at the track.

What I don’t get is the RS version. They are just so uncomfortable. Unless it’s a track car I don’t get it. And I also don’t get having a track car that costs that much. Unless of course it’s for a very serious driver.

If I ever buy a 992 to replace my 991 it'd probably be a Carrera 4S without any fancy sport suspension or aero kits. |

Unless the car has LWB seats it's not harder to get in/out of than a regular Carrera. Most GT3's have front-end lift option so clearance isn't really any more of an issue than a regular Carrera. The front lip on the GT cars is the only part that will rub, and it's just a black plastic wear item that can be replaced in 5 minutes for $250, as opposed to a regular Carrera that has a painted bumper that can be damaged at a far greater cost.
The ride is quite a bit firmer than a regular 911, but there's a module made by DSC Sport that replaces the factory PASM and gives the car a far more compliant ride in standard mode. Quote:

Not sure what you mean. All GT3s(including 15 year old ones) and AC cars trade at least 65-70% or higher of their original MSRP. These run of the mill high production water cooled 911s are depreciating assets when bought new. The only value buy is a 07-08 turbo right now. Even 01-05 turbos are passing their value proposition. I have been lucky with the Pcar brand. Have not lost money on these purchases including a Cayenne Diesel. CD was bought at $38K OTD and then VW cut me a $10K check with warranty up to 10 years or 120K. My AC 911s all have market value twice the purchase prices today. Its no different than a buying decision between a new Hublot or 5 digit GMT 5 yrs ago. Some people are OK with the depreciation because its worth it. |
