Watch Scams Are Everywhere

I used to look through the listings here frequently, but now find myself looking at WatchRecon as you get consolidated listings, and Rolex Forum and WUS feature prominently. But, it’s scary how many scam ads are on these sites. This is made even scarier due to the fact that it is commonplace to rely on wire transfer to make a purchase. I buy and sell guitars also and it is unheard of in that marketplace to do a wire transfer. You are really taking a lot of chances buying watches these days. I still buy from forums and also wire funds but you really have to be vigilant to avoid being scammed. Luckily, I haven’t been burned. But, I have noticed that the last few times I have gone to wire funds my bank has asked me many questions about the legitimacy of who I am dealing with and where the money is going. They have obviously had many customers taken. I’m thankful for the trusted sellers on these forums who go a long way to protect the buying public.

Like they always say, buy the seller first, not the watch.

There are many scams out there in every hobby. 'Scammers' have penetrated everything from golfers to expensive cutlery to outdoor hobbies.

Watches are inherently more dangerous due to the amount of money involved. Right now I would never send a wire to anyone. Accounts can be hacked, etc.

Sad state of affairs.

It would be sensible to go back to your original watch shopping method and just stick to TRF trusted sellers.

I'm nor saying WatchRecon is bad - they just aggregate online adverts. But it mixes the good with the bad.

Ever get the feeling that people aren't particularly honest?
