Maybe it is well-known among the Daytona owners, but it was new to me. See the video below.

Chrono minute hand jumps after the chrono second hand crosses 12, potentially offering better readability of the elapsed time as compared to the case when the minute counter sweeps continuously.

Thoughts??!!

My cheap Seiko quartz chrono does that too. Definitely preferable.

Good to know. I was always under the impression that it is hard to implement jumping minute counters (was thinking Datograph).

thanks for this video. i've been wondering about this for a while but i don't know anyone with a daytona.

so, the hand on the subdial on the right is stationary (meaning it doesn't sweep) until the large seconds hand crosses the 12:00 point, right? isn't that what the video is showing?

what happens after the 30th minute? what does the subdial on the left do? does that dial count hours or 30-minute blocks? c

Good question. We didn't do this experiment at the AD :-) Hopefully the daytona owners will chime in. My guess is it will count 30 min blocks, otherwise there will be no difference between 1' and 31'

So I got interested in this after finding out that there are minute totalizers out there that sweep. I have a Val7753 based watch that "jumps" like the video, so that was my reference point at first. Then I looked into watches like the Longines Heritage 1963 and the Tudor Heritage Chrongoraph and found out they sweep the minute totalizer. The more I looked into it the more interesting it got.

The Val movements are "semi-instantaneous jump" watches, where the minute counter wiggles a bit right before the chrono second hand crosses the 60 sec mark

The complication that is supposedly impressive is "instantaneous jump", where the minute totalizer hand jumps exactly as the second hand crosses the top of the watch with no wiggle.

I'm sure here's more to it, that's my understanding. Google both "instantaneous jump chronograph" and "semi instantaneous jump chronograph" to learn more.

It seems 4130 movement is semi-instantaneous. The minute counter wiggles a bit ... as if it is changing in two steps (see the video below).

Is the dato movement instantaneous? Does anybody know?

Most all chronograph movements do the same even the mechanical Chinese made Seagull ST19 watch cost just $60.

The 9300 is smooth. I kinda prefer the smoothness of the 9300 over the 4130 since all the other hands on an auto are smooth.
