Ok....I have to concede this point ...
This has been a point of ire for me, as much as I love Omega...
Aqua terra gauss? Come on!

Although, I disagree with the comment about the Dsom...
12k is not unreasonable...
And there are plenty out there willing to and having paid full MSRP

I also question the Rolex price point issue...
It is a bit of smoke and mirrors ..
I get minimum 30% off Rolex, with many ADs shuttling their stock to the grey Market ... Many of the ads say that they need to show headquarters that they are
Turning over enough stock...
With the internet age and more people being comfortable making online purchases
Fewer people will expect to pay MSRP for Rolex
With less omega models getting to the grey market...the perception of price and value will
Be much different for the next generation...

And let's not get started on the Asian market...

I love Rolex too, but am not under any illusions about either brand...

i am a believer of omega since they came out with the 8500 caliber. now they have the bumblebee. and the caliber 9300.

they should continue to make improvements in bracelet and other small details.

rolex should be shaking in their boots right now.

Well the 4130 is the best chrono movement ,the 9001 is a piece of art ,and i don think the 3135 is ranked lower than any of the new omega calibers .

No, not your average Seamaster or Speedmaster. I think that they are well made tools, and worth every penny you pay.

My speedmaster auto is a tool watch, I enjoy its yellow dial for everyday wear, it looks good, but it's just a work horse. It's got good craftsmenship, just not the greatest. Like when I look at my speedmaster dial under a loupe, there's a little crevice on the dial where the limes supposed to go, and you can see its not filled in perfect and small stuff like that

Average annual income in United States is roughly $51K per year. If you put the cost of a new Omega Speedmaster vs. this back drop, yeah.. looks like a luxury item to me.

BUT, if you make $500K per year, maybe it is not so luxurious as an AP or Patek.

It's all relative.

It's always a luxury to pay thousands for any watch....certainly you don't need to spend thousands to tell time, so let's concede that most watches are luxury, whether you prefer omegas to Rolex is personal preference..... I don't believe either brand is " luxurious" rather a luxury to own either one ...

As a casual observer, who has been looking at Omega and Rolex for the past year or two, I'm in that dilemma of do I spend $3,000 on a pre owned Omega, or $6,000 to $8,000 on a pre owned Rolex. I find the Omega Aqua Terra GMT's gorgeous, but I can't pay $6,000 to $8,000 for one, when I can get a Rolex GMT, from a seller here, for the same money. I think the Rolex will hold it's value better. I'm probably going to start out with a 2,800 to 3,500 Omega to see if I'm even that enthralled with owning, what to me is an expensive time piece. If I wear it and love it for a few years, then I'd maybe move up to a Rolex. Or do I just skip the 1st step now?? To me Omega is the starting point for what I would call a luxury watch. The stuff between $500 and $2,000, you know the department store brands, are just not that great.

My personal advice is that for this kind of money, get what you want. If Rolex is the watch you're lusting after, then get it, even if you have to save for it.

x2.... they are both expensive watches and well crafted but definitely not high-end top-tier watches. Neither is probably worth the MSRP but they are worth what people will pay for them...

Modern Omega and Rolex watches are both high quality watches with Rolex being perceived by most as a higher luxury brand than Omega. Both make durable, accurate and attractive watches but Rolex has a huge marketing edge resulting in higher retail and resale prices for Rolexes.
