First Rolex- DJ41 Blue

I caught the bug a few weeks ago, and have been obsessing a bit. The DJ41 oyster stainless blue stick dial is what I decided on. I hate how the market seems to be controlled by Rolex. I don’t know how much is true about it, but regardless it can be difficult to find certain watches, let alone discuss pricing. I travel the Midwest extensively, and checked a couple dealers. Stock was pretty limited overall, but what I was looking for was unavailable. One dealer said they could order for me, and when I visited the store, they said they have had it on order, and didn’t have anyone specifically looking for that watch, so they would take my info and let me know when it comes in. They didn’t want to order for me given that scenario. I don’t disagree, but it was disappointing. I had been looking at the secondary market and the risk, even if small, wasn’t very attractive given the prices. It just didn’t make sense. I’m a very impulsive buyer, but sometimes the impulse just doesn’t make good sense.

I started peppering AD’s in the areas of my travels with messages requesting availability of new or pre-owned, and spoke with 3 or 4 who mostly sounded frustrated, but very much wanted to help me get the watch I wanted. One said they contacted Rolex, and was given a 4 week delivery estimate on an order. I kept looking, and started considering the Dark Rhodium dial because that watch was available. Suddenly this afternoon I received an email from one of the AD’s indicating they had a pre-owned watch that I was looking for! And the price was right! I was skeptical, but followed up and turns out it was purchased in Feb ‘18 and traded in recently. I jumped on it and was pleasantly surprised as it was almost mint. I think it was a stroke of luck, and glad I’ve mellowed a bit in my advanced age to dampen my more impulsive nature.

Looks like I have to go on a ‘new posting spree’ before I can share pics.

I’ll be back...

Congrats on a good find, and I look forward to the pics. I'm a DJ fan, I currently own the 36 with blue stick dial (I love the color of this dial). For me it's a great dress watch, and am considering a black dial 41 for more casual wear. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts after you've worn it for a few weeks.

congrats mate.... I am in the market for something similar for my wife as a "push present" (never heard of this before, but apparently it's a thing!) but I know she won't understand the "wait" or lack of supply so I am hoping we can find something easily.

ps. I too just went on a posting spree to be able to post pics :)

Congratulations, have that exact same dj41 on blue, seems to be the most popular dial colour, such a classy, versatile and comfortable piece, just right all round

‘Push Present’?

I had to google it. Seems silly to me, but I’m a man. My opinion doesn’t really count.

Congratulations on the baby!

Nice DJ41 and glad you were able to find a mint pre-owned one...did you swap the oyster bracelet out for a DD bracelet or is that an aftermarket one?

Hard to tell by your photos.

It is stainless from a Frolex DD40. I had to see if it would fit.

Beautiful watch friend I have been looking at the same one as my second purchase. In regards to the push present I learned about that for years ago when my son arrived and a trip to Louisville Thanh had to take place I think it something that a group of women have got together and tricked us into buying them the last really expensive thing before a child shows up which is super expensive
